Preschool Classroom Aide (Fairview Center Head Start) – To assist the teacher and cooperate in a
supportive role, providing and carrying out developmentally appropriate activities and care. To promote the
health, nutrition, and education of the children enrolled in our Head Start programs and to attend to their
safety and welfare.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Preschool CDA Credential (or equivalent) - preferred upon hire – required after two years (PCA I)
- Current Preschool CDA Credential (or equivalent) – required (PCA II)
- Knowledge of Early Childhood Education Practices – generally gained through one year of experience
- Excellent Communications Skills, Especially Good Listening Skills
- Ability to Work as Team Member with Staff and Parents
- Ability to Apply Developmentally Appropriate Practices for Young Children in a Classroom Setting
- Working Knowledge of Available Community Resources and Regulatory Requirements
- Patient, Kind, Resourceful, and Able to Work Effectively with Others
- Excellent Skills in Problem Solving, Conflict Resolution and Being Both Detail and Multi-Task Oriented
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Pass a Criminal Background Check that Meets Required State & Federal Laws
- Maintain Current CPR/First Aid Certification through an Approved Trainer
- Keep State of Alaska Food Handlers Certificate Current
- Participate in Required Annual Trainings
- Complete Annual Self Prepared History Form
- Able to Lift and Carry up to 50 Pounds
- Capable of Getting Up and Down from the Floor with Ease
- Can Stand and/or Sit for Extended Periods of Time Interchangeably
- Occasionally work 8 hour days to attend agency required training
GENERAL INFORMATION:
Location: Fairview Center
Supervisor: Center Coordinator
Schedule: Full-Time (37.5 hrs/wk), Part-Year (45 weeks/year)
Salary: $17.27 – $23.03 per hour DOE and education. Plus benefits: Professional
development opportunities, paid personal and sick leave, holidays, and retirement
plan with matching contribution. We also assist you in obtaining your Child
Development Associate (CDA) credential. $1,500 sign-on bonus, see website for
