Role Overview
CCI is seeking an experienced Website Designer & Developer to support the Suburban Mobility Authority for Regional Transportation (SMART) in delivering a complete redesign of its public-facing website and internal employee portal. This role involves leading the design, development, and launch of a modern, accessible, mobile-first digital platform that improves rider experience, streamlines staff workflows, and integrates real-time transit systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Redesign and develop SMART’s full public website and employee portal
- Build intuitive navigation structures, updated information architecture, and mobile-first layouts
- Design modern, accessible UI components aligned with SMART branding
- Develop CMS templates, page-building tools, and structured content types
- Integrate key transit systems including GTFS/GTFS-RT, service alerts, detour tools, Token Transit, ADP, Mailchimp, and ERP systems
- Ensure the platform meets WCAG 2.2 AA accessibility standards
- Support automated content migration and rebuilding of priority pages
- Conduct UX testing, cross-browser reviews, and quality assurance
- Prepare administrator/editor training content and documentation
- Collaborate closely with CCI, SMART Communications, IT, Operations, and vendor teams
- Participate in sprint reviews, milestone check-ins, and stakeholder workshops
- Deliver maintainable, well-documented, production-ready website files
- Support go-live, post-launch stabilization, and performance tuning
Qualifications (Mandatory & Preferred)
Mandatory
- 4 years of professional website design & development experience
- Strong proficiency with modern web platforms (WordPress, Drupal, Webflow, or enterprise CMS)
- Experience integrating APIs, data feeds, and third-party systems
- Demonstrated ability to build accessible, mobile-responsive websites
- Solid understanding of ADA/WCAG requirements
- Experience with real-time data integrations (JSON, REST, or GTFS preferred)
- Ability to meet deadlines and deliver functional, tested components
- Proficiency with Git, GitHub, GitLab, or similar repositories
- Strong collaboration and communication skills
Preferred
- Experience working with transit agencies, municipalities, or public-sector clients
- Familiarity with GTFS/GTFS-RT and transit-data tools
- Background in UX research, IA development, and component-based design systems
- Experience supporting CMS governance models and multi-user permission workflows
- Knowledge of Agile/Scrum delivery practices
- Understanding of accessibility audits, screen-reader testing, and responsive QA
