Shelter Advocate - Intake & Exit

Catholic Charities is the social service arm of the Catholic Diocese of Winona-Rochester serving the twenty southernmost counties of Minnesota. For over 75 years, Catholic Charities of Southern Minnesota has served the poor and marginalized regardless of age, gender, ethnic background, or faith tradition.

Catholic Charities of Southern Minnesota is seeking a 2nd shift Part-Time Shelter Advocate in Rochester, MN .

We are seeking compassionate and dedicated people to join our team. The ideal candidate will have exceptional organization skills and the ability to communicate in a clear and respectful manor. Able to ensure the buildings operate in accordance with established policies and procedures so that the guests experience safe and secure shelter in a manner that affirms their human dignity.

The Intake position is a 2nd shift position and Exit is a 3rd shift position

Intake work shift

Work Schedule:

• 7:30pm - 12:30am - with every other weekend
• Ability to pick up additional shifts

Responsibilities

• Advocates for the mission of the organization and upholds the agency’s values.
• Review policy & guidelines with guests at time of entrance.
• Participate in HMIS training and entry, if applicable.
• Ensure guests are complying with program policies and procedures.
• Delivers services with safety, respect and effectiveness.
• Refer guests to appropriate community resources for services.
• Monitors guest behavior. Follows all policies and procedures of the organization.
• Provides direction, assistance, and support to volunteers.
• Prepare shelter area for guests. Facilitates sleeping arrangements, if applicable, and storage of personal items.
• Maintains order and assists in keeping all assigned areas clean and free of spills, trash and safety hazards.
• Receive, organize, and store donations received during the shift.
• Maintain record of donations received.
• Assist in cleaning the space and gathering laundry.
• Complete all agency logs and incident reports in a timely manner.
• Provide immediate and professional response to any security /safety emergency or disturbance within or immediately outside facility.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Exit Work Schedule:

• 12:30am - 9:00am - with every other weekend
• Ability to pick up additional shifts

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED.
• People-oriented -- supportive and fairness-focused
• Must be at least 18 years of age and pass background check.

Preferred

• Experience 1-2 years experience in working with people experiencing homelessness, or those who may have a history of mental health, chemical dependency, abuse or trauma
