What are the responsibilities and job description for the Paralegal position at CAROLINA LEGAL ASSOCIATES?
We are seeking an experienced Paralegal to join a dynamic, mission-driven legal team in the Hartford area. In this role, you will provide critical substantive and administrative support to attorneys pursuing justice for individuals and institutions harmed by negligence and corporate wrongdoing. What You’ll Do:
- Calculate, track, and maintain all case deadlines utilizing applicable federal and state rules, scheduling orders, and internal calendaring systems.
- Assist attorneys with the discovery process, including gathering client documents, scheduling depositions, fielding client inquiries, and maintaining frequent communication with defense and co-counsel.
- Finalize and occasionally draft routine notices, affidavits, motions, and summonses. Organize large-scale client databases, including coding, indexing, and numbering document productions.
- File and retrieve court documents accurately using CM/ECF on PACER as well as applicable Connecticut state e-filing systems.
- Draft pre-trial data, prepare trial notebooks, compile exhibits, arrange legal authorities, and create Tables of Contents and Tables of Authorities in MS Word.
- Prepare trial subpoenas, assist in scheduling witnesses, and maintain expert witness files and legal memoranda.
- Assist in conducting initial client interviews and gathering data for new case investigations.
- Provide key office management support (supplies, mail, vendor bills). Enter and reconcile daily time entries and expense reports for assigned attorneys.
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree and/or an ABA-approved Paralegal Certificate required.
- Minimum of two years of professional paralegal experience, with a preference for civil litigation, plaintiffs' personal injury, or class action experience.
- Proficient with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Co-Pilot). Experience using eDiscovery platforms, such as Relativity, is preferred.
- Proven ability to thrive, multi-task, and stay highly organized within a high-pressure, deadline-driven environment.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to work seamlessly within a team-oriented culture.
