Our client, a respected law firm in Columbia, SC, is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Employment Law Paralegal to join the team. In this role, you will provide critical support to an attorney handling a diverse caseload of labor and employment matters, including discrimination, wage and hour disputes, and wrongful termination. The ideal candidate will possess an understanding of state and federal litigation procedures, excellent organizational skills, and experience managing agency filings from intake through resolution.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage a caseload of labor and employment disputes, including discrimination, harassment, wage/hour claims, and wrongful termination.
- Assist with Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and South Carolina Human Affairs Commission (SCHAC) charges, including internal fact-gathering, position statement assembly, and tracking agency deadlines.
- Draft pleadings, discovery requests/responses, motions, and settlement agreements; handle state and federal electronic court filings.
- Conduct in-depth research on state and federal employment statutes, regulations, and relevant case law.
- Organize production documents, prepare deposition summaries, manage witness files, and assist attorneys during hearings or trial prep.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Minimum of 2 years of dedicated paralegal experience in employment law or general civil litigation.
- Familiarity with South Carolina State and Federal Court practices and local rules of civil procedure.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, legal research tools (Westlaw/LexisNexis), and electronic case management software.
