Maintenance Assistant - Long Term Care Facility

Duties

• Perform routine inspections and maintenance of electrical systems, plumbing, HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning), and mechanical equipment to ensure optimal operation.
• Conduct repairs on electrical equipment, plumbing systems, HVAC units, and building interior components using hand tools and specialized diagnostic tools such as ohmmeters and schematics.
• Carry out welding, carpentry, painting—including maintenance painting—and other building interior maintenance tasks to uphold facility standards.
• Maintain facilities equipment by troubleshooting issues with programmable logic controllers (PLCs), electrical systems, and mechanical components; perform necessary repairs or coordinate with specialists.
• Support the upkeep of plumbing systems through routine maintenance and repairs; ensure all plumbing work complies with safety standards.
• Assist with the maintenance of residential painting projects and general facilities upkeep to enhance the building’s appearance and functionality.
• Use schematics and technical manuals to diagnose problems accurately; document all maintenance activities clearly for record-keeping purposes.
• Collaborate with team members to prioritize tasks, respond promptly to urgent repair requests, and ensure a safe environment for residents and staff.
• Provide excellent customer service by addressing maintenance concerns professionally and efficiently while maintaining a positive attitude.

Requirements

• Proven experience in facilities maintenance or related fields with knowledge of electrical work, plumbing, HVAC system repair, carpentry, welding, and mechanical troubleshooting.
• Familiarity with programmable logic controllers (PLCs), schematics, electrical equipment repair, and the use of hand tools including ohmmeters.
• Strong mechanical knowledge combined with experience in building interior maintenance and facilities operations within a healthcare or residential setting preferred.
• Ability to read technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams accurately; excellent problem-solving skills are essential.
• Effective communication skills in English to collaborate with team members and assist residents or staff when needed.
• Demonstrated leadership qualities with the ability to work independently or as part of a team in fast-paced environments.
• Knowledge of safety procedures related to electrical work, plumbing system maintenance, HVAC systems, welding, and general building repairs.
• Physical ability to perform manual tasks such as lifting heavy objects, climbing ladders, bending, standing for extended periods, and working in confined spaces.
