Senior Tax Accountant
An established public accounting firm is seeking an experienced Senior Tax Accountant with 3 years of recent public accounting experience to join its growing tax team. Working closely with Tax Managers and Partners, you'll provide high-quality tax compliance, planning, and advisory services to a diverse portfolio of individual and business clients. This position is based in Frederick, MD or Leesburg, VA, with a hybrid work schedule available.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and review a variety of federal and state tax returns, including 1040, 1065, 1120S, 1120, and 1041.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships by providing exceptional service, tax planning, and consulting support.
- Manage multiple client engagements while ensuring deadlines and quality standards are consistently met.
- Review work prepared by junior staff, providing coaching, feedback, and technical guidance.
- Support managers and partners with tax research, planning strategies, and special projects.
- Identify opportunities to improve clients' tax positions and overall business operations.
- Take ownership of engagement workflow, budgeting, realization, and client expectations.
- Assist with billing, collections, and maintaining engagement profitability.
- Work closely with clients and internal teams to resolve tax and accounting matters.
- Prepare accurate workpapers and apply accounting and tax principles to financial information.
- Assist with tax projections, planning strategies, and advisory projects for individuals and businesses.
Leadership & Career Development
- Mentor and develop junior team members through training, coaching, and daily support.
- Assist with onboarding new staff.
- Take on increasing leadership responsibilities as part of a defined career progression path.
- Participate in recruiting, networking, business development, and other firm initiatives.
- Build professional relationships within the local business community.
- Stay current with tax legislation and maintain technical knowledge through continuing professional education.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field.
- CPA license, EA credential, or actively working toward certification.
- Minimum of 3 years' recent public accounting tax experience.
- Strong experience preparing and reviewing both individual and business tax returns.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and competing deadlines effectively.
- Excellent communication, client relationship, and customer service skills.
- Previous mentoring or supervisory experience is advantageous.
- Experience with UltraTax, SurePrep, QuickBooks, and Thomson Reuters software is preferred.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
Salary : $90,000 - $115,000
