Key Responsibilities:
Solution Design & Architecture:
Lead the overall SAP Vertex integration architecture for indirect tax determination across multiple geographies.
Design tax calculation processes aligned with SAP FI, SD, MM, and S/4HANA tax frameworks.
Define integration patterns, data mappings, and system flows (RFC, APIs, O-Series connectors, real-time calls).
Review and optimize the Vertex configuration and SAP tax procedures (TAXUSX/TAXINN/TAXREGIME/S4HANA tax service).
Ensure accurate tax determination for sales, procurement, returns, credits, invoicing, and financial postings.
Vertex Implementation & Management:
Lead end-to-end Vertex implementation (O-Series / Cloud / On-Prem).
Coordinate Vertex setup: tax rules, content subscriptions, exemption handling, jurisdiction codes, and taxability mapping.
Manage Vertex monthly content updates, release upgrades, and sandbox refreshes.
Ensure compliance with global indirect tax regulations (US Sales & Use Tax, GST, VAT, HST, Brazil NFe).
SAP Finance Expertise:
Provide SAP FI/CO expertise in tax configuration, GL postings, account determination, and reporting.
Support month-end closing activities related to tax postings and reconciliation.
Design tax logic related to AR/AP, Procurement, Billing, Intercompany, etc.
Guide functional teams on tax impact for new business scenarios and rollouts.
Cross-Functional Leadership:
Lead workshops with Finance, Tax, Supply Chain, and IT stakeholders.
Collaborate with SAP SD/MM functional leads to manage tax determination in order-to-cash and procure-to-pay cycles.
Provide technical leadership to ABAP and Integration teams for enhancements, reports, and interfaces.
Serve as the primary liaison with Vertex technical support and tax SMEs.
Integration, Testing & Deployment:
Own all integration testing: SIT, UAT, regression, cutover, production validation.
Troubleshoot integration failures, tax discrepancies, and performance issues.
Drive go-live planning, hypercare support, and stabilization activities.
Ensure logging, monitoring, and audit compliance for tax calls and postings.
Compliance, Controls & Documentation:
Maintain documentation for integration design, configuration, and testing.
Ensure tax compliance and support internal/external audits.
Implement controls to ensure correct tax determination and reporting.
Support SOX and statutory compliance requirements.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Technical Skills:
10-15 years of SAP Finance experience with 5 years in Vertex integration.
Strong experience with Vertex O-Series (Cloud or On-Prem).
SAP S/4HANA or ECC tax configuration expertise.
Strong understanding of SAP SD/MM tax processes.
Experience with tax procedure setup (TAXUSX/TAXINN/Tax Calculation Service).
Knowledge of API/RFC integrations between SAP and Vertex.
Experience in global indirect tax (VAT, GST, Sales & Use Tax).
Familiarity with middleware such as CPI, PI/PO, or MuleSoft.
Functional & Leadership Skills:
Ability to lead cross-functional teams (Finance, Tax, IT) in complex implementation programs.
Strong communication and workshop-facilitation skills.
Ability to document end-to-end tax design and integration specifications.
Experience with Agile/Waterfall delivery methodologies.
The pay range that the employer in good faith reasonably expects to pay for this position is $66.69/hour - $104.20/hour. Our benefits include medical, dental, vision and retirement benefits. Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis.
