Primary responsibility is to work with mechanical and electrical engineers to design and fabricate subsystems attached to OEM vehicles.
This responsibility includes mechanical part design using Solidworks 3D modeling software and creating 2D drawings to send out for machining and fabrication.
Assembly and installation of designed components on vehicle platforms as well as some shop fabrication and cleaning work in the client shop. Has gained proficiency in multiple competencies relevant to the job.
Works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function.
Key Responsibilities:
Participate as a member of multiple development project teams.
Assist in project development with specific interest and responsibility to minimize design problems.
Certify product testing and ensure products are ready for delivery to the Quality Assurance and Testing department.
Fabricate and assemble parts for installation on the OEM vehicle platform.
Proficient in the use of a welder, CNC mill, lathe, drill, CNC gantry/plasma cutter, painting, powder coating, and general sheet metal work.
Assist with facilities upkeep and responsible for maintaining and cleaning shop equipment.
Maintains regular study habits by frequently reviewing emerging technologies that improve the design, development, and applies technologies learned.
Develop detailed design drawings and specifications for mechanical equipment, dies, tools, and controls, using computer-assisted drafting (Solidworks) equipment.
Work with Engineers to modify and revise designs to correct operating deficiencies or to reduce production problems.
Essential education, work experience & skills:
Associates degree in Mechanical Drafting or related field, and/or equivalent experience.
3-5 years of experience in mechanical design, metal and plastic working, mechanical, or electrical engineering.
3-5 years of application experience with Solidworks 3D modeling, 2D parts drawings, and 3D routing.
Experience in CNC use to generate G Code from 2D drawings.
Knowledge of design implementation through machining operations.
Experience in sheet metal design work.
Knowledge of electronics wire routing.
Physical requirements:
Ability to constantly traverse throughout an industrial or shop environment to access equipment and work areas.
Ability to frequently bend, kneel, squat, reach, and ascend/descend to service equipment.
Ability to effectively complete tasks in confined spaces and environments with varying temperatures and noise levels.
Ability to position and move tools, equipment, and components up to 50 lbs. on average 5 times a day.
Ability to effectively operate and manipulate hand tools, power tools, and precision instruments.
Ability to detect, identify, and respond to safety risks and environmental cues while performing essential functions.
The pay range that the employer in good faith reasonably expects to pay for this position is $36.98/hour - $57.79/hour. Our benefits include medical, dental, vision and retirement benefits. Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis.
