California Montessori Project is a public, tuition-free, TK-8, charter school network in the Greater Sacramento Area. We have over 2,800 students at our six schools, which are authorized by the four school districts in which they geographically reside.
The California Montessori Project provides a Montessori curriculum, integrated with the California state standards, to provide hands-on education in a child-focused format. Our classrooms are multi-grade, have small class sizes (averaging 24 students per class), and most have both a lead teacher and a teaching assistant. Job Overview:

The Math Specialist is responsible for providing leadership and support to improve math instruction and student outcomes in grades Transitional Kindergarten (TK) through 8th grade at their school site. This position collaborates with teachers, administrators, and district leaders to enhance the effectiveness of math curriculum, instructional strategies, and assessment practices. The Math Specialist will have an understanding of state standards, evidence-based instructional strategies, and Montessori pedagogy. They will assist in developing and delivering professional development, facilitating data-driven decision-making, coaching and supporting teachers and students in Tier 1-2, teaching intervention in small groups and modeling lessons for educators, and ensuring the successful implementation of math instruction at the school site level.
Key Responsibilities:
Teacher Coaching and Support:

Work directly with teachers through coaching, co-teaching, modeling lessons, hosting instructional rounds and offering feedback to improve instructional practices. Help teachers differentiate math instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners

Support teachers in the use of evidence-based practices to enhance student achievement, such as math language routines, number routines, and sense making routines

Support the implementation of high-quality instructional materials (HQIM) so that all students are users of math and apply the Standards of Mathematical practice

Facilitate and participate in regular coaching check ins with teachers and Principal to align on goals, progress monitor, and provide feedback

Facilitate or co-facilitate team PLCs to collaborate on completion of student work to inform instructional planning, data analysis, and classroom system, routines, and procedures
Professional Development:
-
Assist in the design, implementation, and evaluation of the networks’ HQIM and standards-aligned math curriculum for Tier 1 and Tier 2 instruction. Ensure alignment with CCSS and Montessori, as well as best practices for high quality math instruction

Support teachers with the implementation of the network’s 1st-8th grade Math Pacing Guides

Provide ongoing professional development opportunities for teachers in effective math instruction, curriculum implementation, differentiated instruction, and formative assessment strategies

Work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, network staff and other math specialists to ensure consistent and cohesive math instruction across the organization

Assist in selecting and managing instructional resources and materials for the TK-8 math program. Provide recommendations for supplemental tools, interventions, and technologies to support teaching and learning

Participate in network instructional PLCs and instructional rounds

Engage in R&D to expand the organization’s knowledge base of HQIM and evidence-based instructional practices to support all educators
Intervention and Multi-Tiered Systems of Support:

Implement intervention aligned to MTSS systems and best practices, including teaching small groups identified by data

Progress monitor intervention growth and communicate with teachers and families
-
Participate as an active member of Student Study Teams and Tier 2 teams to assign intervention services and supports and set expectations

May teach grade level Math lessons using HQIM and standards aligned curriculum
-
May implement intervention for acceleration, including teaching Integrated Math I, Algebra I, Geometry, etc. if in compliance with credential requirements
Data Analysis and Assessment:

Monitor and assess the effectiveness of math programs, initiatives, and instructional practices. Use data to inform decision-making and recommend adjustments to improve student outcomes

Communicate effectively with parents and the community to share progress, goals, and outcomes

Analyze student data (student, teacher, site) to identify trends, gaps, areas for improvement, and progress towards grade level standards mastery

Assist in setting goals for student achievement and provide recommendations for instructional adjustments

Support state-wide assessments such as CAASPP
-
Provide assessment data to site leadership and teachers to monitor student progress and action plan

Attends meetings at the network, local, county, etc. as needed
