Under the general direction of a Supervisor II and functionally under the general direction of a Supervisor I, the incumbent supervises staff responsible for performing the receiving, storage, issuance, delivery, and shipping of all division and client agencies telecommunications parts and equipment.

Working Conditions

In Office: This position supports and manages the day-to-day business operations for Cal OES which is handled in an office location. This is not considered a hybrid telework position.

DMV Pull Program: Participation in the DMV Pull Program is required. The position(s) require(s) a valid Driver’s License (DL). You must answer the questions addressing your DL on your application. Ensure you provide your DL number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements and/or restrictions.

Conflict of Interest (COI): This position is designated under the Conflict of Interest Code and is required to complete Form 700 within 30 days of appointment. Failure to comply with the Conflict of Interest Code requirements may void the appointment.

This position is located at the Public Safety Communications Campus in Sacramento County.

The California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) is an emergency response, homeland security, and disaster recovery agency and as a result, is a dynamic and exciting place to work in a team-oriented environment. Cal OES provides training to enhance the understanding of emergency and incident management to all employees.

The Public Safety Communications (PSC) Technical Services Branch provides a variety of services to PSC and the public safety agencies it serves. The Branch oversees the California Public Safety Microwave Network (CAPSNET), licensing of public safety radio spectrum with the FCC, and a host of ancillary services that support PSC’s service delivery.

In the event of an emergency, employees may be contacted and requested to report to work in the event of an emergency. This contact may be outside of your normal working hours (evenings/nights, weekends, and holidays). This service may require irregular work hours, work locations other than the official duty location, and may include duties other than those specified in your official position description. Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and you may be required to relocate to emergency sites.

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

  • Strength, good physical agility, and willingness to do heavy manual labor.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Proficient with computers and their related software.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to tour the facility by walking and standing on concrete floor.
  • Ability to interact with PSC engineers, analysts, clerical staff; supervisors; and PSC clients.
  • Able to visually identify and correctly communicate (verbally and in writing) about the specialized equipment used in PSC’s communication system installation and repair work.
  • Ability to manage conflict and find successful resolutions to problem situations.
  • Ability to climb a ladder, and lift supplies and parts weighing up to 35 pounds.
