The Junior High School Assistant Football Coach supports the Head Coach in implementing a safe, developmentally appropriate football program for student-athletes in grades 79. The assistant coach helps teach fundamentals, build character, and promote academic and athletic growth while fostering a positive and respectful team environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in planning and conducting practices, drills, and conditioning sessions.
- Teach basic techniques, rules, and strategies of football appropriate to junior high athletes.
- Support the Head Coach during games with play-calling, substitutions, and sideline management.
- Serve as a role model for student-athletes in attitude, work ethic, and sportsmanship.
- Encourage academic responsibility and monitor student-athlete behavior on and off the field.
- Ensure proper care and inventory of equipment and uniforms.
- Help supervise players during practices, games, travel, and team functions.
- Maintain open communication with coaches, athletes, parents, and school staff.
- Follow all district, school, and league rules and regulations.
- Experience playing or coaching football at the youth, junior high, or high school level.
- Ability to work with young adolescents and adapt instruction to skill level.
- Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Must pass a background check and meet all school/district coaching requirements.
- Outdoor practices and games in varying weather conditions.
- Evening and weekend availability required.
- Physical activity including running, demonstrating drills, and lifting equipment.
- Must have the appropriate level core content are endorsement on teaching certificate
