Field-Programmable Gate Arrays Engineer

Position Overview

GE HealthCare’s Magnetic Resonance (MR) engineering organization is seeking an FPGA Engineer to support the design, development, and validation of FPGA-based systems across a range of advanced technology initiatives. This role sits within a collaborative FPGA engineering team focused on enabling next-generation MR system capabilities through embedded hardware development.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement FPGA designs using VHDL for embedded systems applications
• Perform simulation, debugging, and validation of FPGA designs both in code and on physical hardware
• Execute functional testing and verification to ensure designs meet performance and system requirements
• Troubleshoot FPGA and circuit-level issues using lab equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multimeters)
• Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to support system integration and product development
• Create and maintain technical documentation, including design specifications and test procedures
• Support prototype development, including modeling, testing, and iterative design improvements
• Ensure compliance with GE HealthCare’s Quality Management System (QMS) and regulatory standards

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field
• 5 years of experience in FPGA development, including:
• VHDL-based design and implementation
• Simulation and verification
• Hardware testing and debugging
• Strong understanding of digital hardware design principles
• Experience troubleshooting FPGA and circuit board-level issues
• Hands-on experience with lab equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multimeters)
• Ability to work onsite in Waukesha, WI (5 days/week)

Preferred Qualifications

• 8–10 years of FPGA development experience
• Experience with Intel/Altera tools (Quartus) and simulation tools such as QuestaSim
• Background in industries such as medical device, industrial electronics, power systems, or automotive
• Strong communication and collaboration skills
• Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, fast-paced R&D environment
• Experience driving technical tasks and contributing to program execution
