Position Overview
GE HealthCare’s Magnetic Resonance (MR) engineering organization is seeking an FPGA Engineer to support the design, development, and validation of FPGA-based systems across a range of advanced technology initiatives. This role sits within a collaborative FPGA engineering team focused on enabling next-generation MR system capabilities through embedded hardware development.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement FPGA designs using VHDL for embedded systems applications
- Perform simulation, debugging, and validation of FPGA designs both in code and on physical hardware
- Execute functional testing and verification to ensure designs meet performance and system requirements
- Troubleshoot FPGA and circuit-level issues using lab equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multimeters)
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to support system integration and product development
- Create and maintain technical documentation, including design specifications and test procedures
- Support prototype development, including modeling, testing, and iterative design improvements
- Ensure compliance with GE HealthCare’s Quality Management System (QMS) and regulatory standards
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field
- 5 years of experience in FPGA development, including:
- VHDL-based design and implementation
- Simulation and verification
- Hardware testing and debugging
- Strong understanding of digital hardware design principles
- Experience troubleshooting FPGA and circuit board-level issues
- Hands-on experience with lab equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multimeters)
- Ability to work onsite in Waukesha, WI (5 days/week)
Preferred Qualifications
- 8–10 years of FPGA development experience
- Experience with Intel/Altera tools (Quartus) and simulation tools such as QuestaSim
- Background in industries such as medical device, industrial electronics, power systems, or automotive
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, fast-paced R&D environment
- Experience driving technical tasks and contributing to program execution
