Technical Writer / Communications Specialist
6-Month Contract (High Likelihood of Extension or Full-Time Conversion)
Location: Birmingham, AL (Hybrid)
Our client is seeking a Technical Writer / Communications Specialist to support their Power Delivery Data Analytics team. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys translating technical concepts into clear, engaging content and thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
You will play a key role in supporting internal communications and technical documentation efforts, helping drive adoption and understanding of new tools, applications, and analytics solutions across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, edit, and maintain technical documentation and user guides for internal applications and analytics dashboards
- Update and manage knowledge base content in alignment with system releases and enhancements
- Create PowerPoint presentations and multimedia content (including video) to communicate new features, tools, and business value
- Partner with stakeholders to gather and incorporate user feedback to improve documentation and communication effectiveness
- Draft and distribute internal communications, including emails and newsletters related to technical initiatives
- Support SharePoint content management, ensuring information is accurate, accessible, and user-friendly
- Translate complex technical information into concise executive-level summaries and one-pagers
Required Qualifications
- 1–3 years of experience in technical writing, communications, or a related field
- Experience developing end-user documentation or instructional content
- Strong writing, editing, and grammar skills (APA/MLA familiarity preferred)
- Exposure to data analytics concepts and tools (e.g., Power BI)
- Excellent organizational, time management, and problem-solving abilities
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across technical and non-technical teams
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly PowerPoint and SharePoint
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Technical Communications, Journalism, Computer Science, or a related field
- Familiarity with UX/UI principles
- Experience with video editing tools such as Camtasia, Adobe Premiere Pro, or After Effects
