Job Description
The Power Delivery Data Analytics team plays a critical role in advancing strategic initiatives related to grid investment and modernization by using data-driven insights to optimize grid performance, enhance reliability, and support a more resilient and sustainable energy infrastructure. As a Technical Writer and Communication and Documentation Specialist, you will ensure that technical information, software documentation, and internal communications are clear, accurate, and accessible to a wide range of audiences. You will act as a bridge between technical experts and business stakeholders, translating complex data, analytics, and application features into meaningful, user-friendly content that supports adoption and understanding of internal tools and initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Compose and review clear, accurate technical documentation and user guides for internal software applications and analytics dashboards.
- Maintain and update existing articles, documentation, and knowledge base content in alignment with upcoming fix version releases.
- Support the creation of compelling PowerPoint presentations that effectively showcase new applications, features, and benefits for various internal audiences.
- Research, analyze, and synthesize user feedback to identify content gaps and opportunities to improve documentation quality and overall content performance.
- Draft clear and effective emails and newsletters to communicate updates, changes, and key announcements related to technical projects and analytics tools.
- Support SharePoint site maintenance and content development, ensuring that information is accurate, well-organized, and easy to navigate.
- Translate complex technical concepts and data analytics insights into succinct, executive-ready one-pagers for leadership and decision-makers.
- Collaborate closely with technical teams, data analysts, developers, and business stakeholders to gather information and validate content.
- Follow established technical writing processes and standards to ensure consistency, quality, and compliance with language and grammar principles.
- Contribute to proposal writing and marketing-oriented content when needed, aligning messaging with broader strategy and objectives.
Essential Skills
- 1–3 years of experience in technical writing or a related field, with a focus on end-user documentation.
- 1–3 years of experience crafting engaging written communications such as emails, newsletters, and internal announcements.
- Strong command of grammar and language standards, including familiarity with APA and MLA style guidelines.
- Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
- Strong time management and problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to resolving content gaps and documentation issues.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and organizational levels.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with particular strength in PowerPoint for presentations and SharePoint for content management.
- Ability to follow technical writing or formal documentation processes while maintaining high standards of clarity and accuracy.
- Solid understanding of language and grammar principles applied to technical and business communication.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Technical Communications, Computer Science, Journalism, or a related field.
- Experience using language analysis software to improve clarity, consistency, and readability of written content.
- Experience with inventory or recipe-style process writing that requires precision, sequencing, and clear instructions.
- Ability to align content with marketing strategy and internal branding guidelines when needed.
Work Environment
You will work in a collaborative, cross-functional environment that brings together data analytics professionals, software developers, and business stakeholders focused on grid investment and modernization. The role involves frequent use of Microsoft Office tools, especially PowerPoint for presentations and SharePoint for content hosting and collaboration. You will interact regularly with technical experts to gather information and with leadership and non-technical audiences to tailor messaging and documentation. The position centers on digital content creation, including written documentation, presentations, and occasional video materials, using tools such as Camtasia, Adobe Premiere Pro, or After Effects where applicable. Work is primarily computer-based in a professional office or hybrid setting, with a focus on clear communication, timely updates, and continuous improvement of internal documentation and communication assets.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Birmingham, AL.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $25.00 - $28.00/hr.
