The Mill Department Technician is responsible for manufacturing and preparing cabinet components for assembly using computerized and automated woodworking equipment. This position operates CNC routers, edgebanders, and dowel insertion machines to produce high-quality cabinet parts according to production schedules and quality standards. Attention to detail, accuracy, and safe equipment operation are essential.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate CNC routers to cut cabinet components according to production drawings and work orders.
- Set up, operate, and monitor edgebanding equipment to apply edge banding to cabinet parts.
- Operate dowel insertion machinery to accurately prepare components for assembly.
- Verify material dimensions, part quality, and machining accuracy before releasing parts to assembly.
- Read and interpret shop drawings, cut lists, and production schedules.
- Perform machine setup, tool changes, and basic programming adjustments as needed.
- Inspect finished parts for quality, ensuring dimensions, edge quality, and hole locations meet specifications.
- Identify and report material defects, equipment issues, or production discrepancies.
- Maintain organized workstations and accurately label completed parts for assembly.
- Perform routine cleaning and preventative maintenance on equipment.
- Follow all safety procedures, lockout/tagout requirements, and company policies.
- Assist with material handling and inventory as needed.
- Work collaboratively with engineering, production, and assembly personnel to maintain workflow and production goals.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Experience operating CNC woodworking equipment, edgebanders, or dowel insertion machines preferred.
- Ability to read shop drawings, blueprints, and production documents.
- Basic computer skills and familiarity with CNC software is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Ability to accurately measure using tape measures, calipers, and other measuring tools.
- Good problem-solving and mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Frequently lift and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Repetitive use of hands, arms, and wrists.
- Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and perform physical tasks throughout the workday.
- Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, dust, and moving machinery while wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
