Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented Cabinet Shop Finisher to join our team. The ideal candidate will prepare, stain, paint, and finish custom cabinetry and woodworking products to meet high-quality standards. This position requires experience with wood finishing techniques, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a production environment while maintaining a clean and safe workspace.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare wood surfaces by sanding, filling, and cleaning prior to finishing.
- Apply stains, sealers, toners, paints, lacquers, varnishes, and other finishing materials.
- Match colors and finishes according to customer specifications and shop standards.
- Inspect finished products for quality, consistency, and defects before delivery.
- Sand between coats and perform touch-ups or repairs as needed.
- Operate spray equipment and maintain finishing tools and equipment.
- Follow proper mixing ratios and application procedures for all finishing products.
- Read and interpret work orders, drawings, and finish schedules.
- Maintain an organized, clean, and safe finishing area.
- Follow all company safety procedures and OSHA guidelines regarding chemicals and equipment.
- Assist with loading, packaging, and final preparation of completed cabinetry when necessary.
- Work collaboratively with cabinet makers, installers, and project managers to meet production deadlines.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous experience in cabinet finishing, woodworking, furniture finishing, or a related trade preferred.
- Knowledge of stains, paints, sealers, lacquers, conversion varnishes, and other wood finishing products.
- Experience operating spray guns and finishing equipment.
- Ability to identify wood species and understand how different materials accept finishes.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Reliable attendance and strong work ethic.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and perform repetitive hand movements.
- Comfortable working around dust, paint, stains, and finishing chemicals while using appropriate personal protective equipment.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with custom cabinetry or architectural millwork.
- Color matching and finish repair experience.
- Knowledge of spray booth operation and maintenance.
- Familiarity with shop safety standards and quality control processes.
