About Us
Brilliant® is an award-winning contract and consulting practice headquartered in Chicago, specializing in accounting, finance, technology, and business solutions across the Midwest and Southeast U.S. labor markets.
We are working with a middle-market services company ($150M revenue) to identify a hands-on Controller to support the business through a critical period, including audit readiness and a potential sale process.
This is an immediate need for a 2–4 month engagement with potential for contract-to-hire. The company is located ~30 minutes southwest of Houston, with a preference for onsite support (flexibility for the right candidate).
Role Overview:
This position requires a strong “doer” who can operate at both a Controller and CFO level, partnering closely with leadership to drive accounting operations, financial reporting, and transaction readiness.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own and manage full-cycle accounting and month-end close
- Support audit and sell-side readiness, including financial statement preparation
- Roll forward financials from prior year and ensure accuracy and consistency
- Oversee AP/AR functions and provide guidance to lean accounting staff
- Manage and optimize recently implemented Sage Intacct system
- Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting for leadership and external stakeholders
- Partner with leadership on financial insights, reporting, and transaction support
- Operate independently in a lean environment with minimal oversight
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a Controller or senior-level accounting leader
- Experience supporting audit and/or transaction (sell-side) environments
- Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting
- Experience in mid-sized or founder-owned businesses preferred
- Ability to be hands-on while also providing strategic insight
- Experience with Sage Intacct strongly preferred
- Comfortable working in a lean, fast-paced environment
