Job Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Gun Department Manager to lead our firearm sales and operations. The ideal candidate will possess strong management skills, extensive knowledge of retail sales, inventory control, and customer service within a firearms retail environment. This role requires excellent leadership, organizational skills, and the ability to oversee daily store functions while ensuring compliance with all safety and legal regulations. The Gun Department Manager will be responsible for managing staff, maintaining inventory accuracy, and delivering exceptional customer experiences.
Responsibilities
- Oversee daily operations of the gun department, including sales, inventory management, and customer service.
- Lead and supervise a team of sales associates, providing training, coaching, and performance evaluations.
- Manage inventory control, purchasing, and merchandising to ensure product availability and optimal stock levels.
- Conduct employee orientation, interviewing, recruiting, and onboarding new team members.
- Handle payroll processing, bookkeeping, and cash handling procedures accurately.
- Develop and implement sales strategies to meet department goals; utilize POS systems effectively.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local firearm regulations and safety protocols.
- Coordinate marketing efforts to promote firearm products and related accessories.
- Manage shift schedules to ensure proper coverage during store hours; oversee cashiering duties as needed.
- Maintain excellent communication with staff and customers; handle customer inquiries with professionalism via phone etiquette.
- Monitor department performance through retail math analysis such as pricing, sales tracking, and budgeting.
Skills
- Strong management experience with a focus on retail sales or firearm retail environments.
- Excellent leadership abilities with proven supervising experience in a team management setting.
- Proficiency in negotiation, employee orientation, interviewing, recruiting, payroll processing, bookkeeping, inventory management, POS systems, purchasing, merchandising, stocking, marketing, wireless sales (if applicable), cash handling, store management, shift management, retail math & pricing strategies.
- Exceptional communication skills; bilingual or multilingual capabilities are a plus for serving diverse customers effectively.
- Demonstrated organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently including training & development initiatives.
- Knowledge of firearms safety regulations and legal compliance requirements is preferred but not mandatory.
