Position Summary
The Tax Accountant is responsible for preparing a variety of federal, state, and local tax filings for a large, complex organization and its related entities. This role supports income, franchise, sales/use, excise, and property tax compliance, while also contributing to tax planning initiatives and broader business projects.
What You Will Do
Indirect Tax Responsibilities
- Prepare U.S. and Canadian periodic sales and use tax returns, property tax filings (including processing related tax bills), and quarterly fuel tax filings with associated refund claims.
- Maintain and complete all items outlined on the tax due-date tracker to ensure timely compliance.
- Research, investigate, and respond to customer and internal tax-related inquiries.
- Reconcile sales tax accounts and prepare monthly journal entries.
- Perform data analysis as needed to support tax reporting and planning efforts.
- Assist with governmental audits and participate in various tax and business planning projects.
Your Work Schedule & Flexibility
- Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (standard business hours).
- Hybrid Work Model: A modern schedule offering flexibility with 4 days in the office and 1 day working remotely.
What You’ll Bring to the Table
- Two to three years of public accounting or corporate tax accounting experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (required).
- CPA certification preferred.
- Strong attention to detail with a results-driven mindset at the company, team, and individual levels.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders outside of direct reporting lines to achieve organizational goals.
- Demonstrated accuracy and thoroughness, with a continuous focus on process improvement and quality.
- Clear and concise communication skills, with the ability to present ideas effectively to individuals and groups.
- Comfortable leading group discussions to drive progress and maintain focus.
- Takes ownership of actions and outcomes.
- Brings creativity and fresh perspectives to complex issues.
- Solid knowledge of tax accounting, tax preparation, tax planning, financial accounting, and analysis.
- Ability to develop solutions to complex problems, drawing on established precedents and policies when appropriate.
- Awareness of industry trends and evolving tax practices.
