JOB SUMMARY:
The IT Technician I supports all desktop, laptop and network environments within the organization.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
Major responsibilities include, but are not limited to, installation and maintenance of computer systems, shrink wrapped applications and associated peripherals. This position also includes network and security support. This position requires maintaining support processes, inventory control of equipment and general computer support of our remote users. Work is performed independently under the supervision of the IT Director and Assistant IT Director.
JOB FUNCTIONS:
Provides incident management and service request support for pc hardware, peripherals and software;
Performs programming on an as needed basis;
Performs duties of computer operator;
Prepares and maintains documentation on an as needed basis;
Updates inventory with equipment, software and products;
Ships & receives equipment to and from remote users and repair depots;
Updates user accounts;
Maintains and checks logs for backups, viruses, security and reports;
Provides quotes of hardware and software to requesting departments;
Prepares hardware for recycling;
Performs other duties as needed or assigned;
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must have the ability to record, convey, and present information, explain procedures, and follow instructions;
Must be able to sit for long periods of time with frequent periods of standing, walking, and occasional twisting, reaching, pulling, and pushing required for obtaining files, doing inspections or other job duties;
Dexterity requirements range from simple to complex movements of fingers/hands, legs/feet, or torso to carry out job duties;
Sedentary work with occasional lifting, 15-20 pounds;
Must be able to pay close attention to detail and concentrate on work.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Strong knowledge of the hardware, software, operating systems of the County's computer systems; basic knowledge of and skill in the preparation of computer programs; ability to follow oral and written instructions; ability to think logically and to analyze and interpret problems assigned so as to present results with clarity and precision both in written and oral form; ability to exercise ingenuity and inventiveness in devising solutions to moderately difficult and complex problems; ability to prioritize tasks; ability to maintain high degree of confidentiality and integrity; ability to communicate effectively; ability to follow policies and procedures; ability to perform work duties with minimal direction and/or supervision; flexibility in performing and managing multiple tasks.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE and TRAINING:
Some experience in computer operations and completion of an Associates degree in Information Technology, preferably graduation from a college or university of recognized standing with major work in computer science; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. A Certification required
