Title: Studio Apprentice
Salary: $16/hour
Classification: Temporary; Part-time; Seasonal: Summer; Hourly
Hours: 9 hours/week academic year, 15 hours/week summer
Location: Riverzedge Arts (Woonsocket)
Overview: The Studio Apprentice works collaboratively with peers and with the Studio Coordinator, a professional artist, to complete projects for clients. Their main job is to learn industry-standard art and design skills appropriate to the studio, develop excellent professional workplace etiquette, and gain the social-emotional skills that support a positive, collaborative work environment.
Within Public Art, the Studio Apprentice will learn:
- The purpose of Public Art;
- Elements and principles of design;
- How to maintain a professional artist studio;
- How to collaborate with a team to create a high-quality product;
- How to kindly and compassionately give and receive constructive criticism;
- How to manage time and work within a deadline; and
- What it takes to become a professional artist and/or designer
Qualifications
- Must be between ages 14 and 18 years old or grades 9th through 12th
- No experience with art or design required
- Maintain an academic average of C or above (tutoring is available)
- Attend BOTH school and work every day
- Complete all hiring paperwork in collaboration with a parent or legal guardian BEFORE starting the program
- Successfully pass all BCI requirements
Physical Requirements
- Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards
- Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards
