Tier 3 Systems Engineer / Project Engineer – Managed IT Services
Location: Naperville, IL (Hybrid with flexibility)
Salary: $85,000 - $110,000
A long-standing Managed IT Services and cybersecurity provider based in Naperville is seeking a Tier 3 Systems Engineer / Project Engineer to join its growing technical team. This organization has supported small businesses, manufacturing, aerospace, and defense-adjacent clients across Texas for over two decades and is known for its strong culture, technical rigor, and commitment to employee growth.
This role is heavily project-driven, with a strong emphasis on cloud solutions, infrastructure design, and client-facing implementations. It is ideal for a senior engineer who enjoys owning projects end-to-end, advising clients at the executive level, and serving as a technical leader within an MSP environment.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Lead and execute infrastructure projects including new client onboarding, server and network deployments, and cloud migrations
- Design and implement Microsoft 365 and Azure environments, including tenant builds, migrations, and security configuration
- Serve as a senior escalation resource for complex Tier 3 issues alongside project responsibilities
- Provide infrastructure guidance and technical recommendations to C-level and senior client stakeholders
- Assist with project coordination and execution, functioning as a technical lead or assistant project manager when needed
- Support and mentor Tier 1 and Tier 2 engineers through escalation support and technical guidance
- Implement and maintain secure environments using industry best practices and security frameworks
- Participate in architecture discussions covering backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity
- Contribute to continuous improvement of internal processes, documentation, and technical standards
Technical Skills & Experience
- Strong experience with Windows Server operating systems and core roles
- Advanced administration of Microsoft 365, Azure AD, and Microsoft Intune
- Experience with cloud migrations, hybrid environments, and identity management
- Hands-on networking experience including TCP/IP, VLANs, VPNs, DHCP, firewalls, NAT, IPS/IDS, and QoS
- Wireless technologies including 802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax
- Solid understanding of backup, disaster recovery, and data management best practices
- Security tooling experience such as:
- Endpoint protection and EDR
- Email security and DNS filtering
- SIEM, RMM, and vulnerability scanning
- Conditional Access, BitLocker, MFA, SSO, PAM/PIM
- Firewall / UTM platforms and VPN solutions
- Familiarity with common security frameworks (e.g., NIST, CIS, HIPAA, Zero Trust)
