Construction Controller

A full-service landscape construction and maintenance company is expanding fast, and they need a Controller who knows how to turn numbers into direction. This leader will own all financial operations and reporting while coaching a small but mighty team. This role sits at the center of strategy, partnering closely with project managers and leadership to ensure profitable projects, clean books, and confident decision-making. The right candidate is a builder. Someone who is organized, decisive, collaborative, and eager to step into a role with real impact and room to grow.

Controller Responsibilities

• Oversee all financial processes, including job cost accounting and corporate accounting
• Manage month-end close, financial statements, variance analysis, and performance insights
• Own budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management
• Work closely with the leadership team to drive profitable growth and strategic planning
• Ensure accurate project tracking, billing, change orders, and revenue recognition
• Lead WIP reporting and serve as liaison between Operations and Finance
• Maintain compliance with sales tax, payroll tax, and state regulations
• Partner with outside CPA firm on tax returns and annual financial reviews
• Improve accounting systems, processes, and internal controls
• Lead and mentor office/admin team members supporting accounting functions
  
  

Controller Requirements

• 3 years in a Controller role
• 3 - 5 years of construction accounting experience
• Strong QuickBooks expertise
• Excellent communication and leadership skills
• Highly organized with strong follow-through and deadline discipline
• Collaborative mindset and ability to be a trusted partner to operations
• Analytical thinker with strong strategic and problem-solving ability
• Adaptable with a process-improvement mindset
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance preferred
