Position Overview
The Vice President of Market Development is a senior executive responsible for identifying, evaluating, and executing growth opportunities that expand the company’s market presence, revenue streams, and strategic partnerships. This role leads initiatives related to new market entry, business expansion, channel growth, customer acquisition, and long-term commercial strategy.
The VP of Market Development works cross-functionally with Sales, Marketing, Product, Operations, Finance, and Executive Leadership to drive sustainable growth and competitive advantage in domestic and international markets.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Growth & Market Expansion
Develop and implement comprehensive market development strategies aligned with corporate growth objectives.
Identify new market opportunities, emerging customer segments, geographic expansion areas, and untapped revenue channels.
Conduct competitive analysis, market intelligence, and industry trend assessments to support strategic decision-making.
Build go-to-market plans for new products, services, and territories.
Revenue Generation & Business Development
Drive top-line revenue growth through strategic partnerships, alliances, and channel development.
Create scalable business development programs to increase market share and customer acquisition.
Negotiate commercial agreements, partnerships, and expansion contracts.
Collaborate with Sales leadership to improve pipeline generation and conversion performance.
Leadership & Cross-Functional Execution
Lead and mentor market development, partnerships, and growth teams.
Coordinate with Marketing on brand positioning, campaigns, and lead generation initiatives.
Partner with Product teams to align market demand with innovation roadmaps.
Work closely with Finance to evaluate ROI, budgets, forecasts, and growth investments.
Data, Performance & Optimization
Establish KPIs for market penetration, partnership revenue, customer growth, and expansion success.
Use data analytics to optimize market strategies, pricing opportunities, and sales effectiveness.
Present business performance updates and strategic recommendations to executive leadership and board stakeholders.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Economics, or related field; MBA preferred.
10 years of progressive leadership experience in market development, business development, strategy, or commercial growth roles.
Proven success in launching new markets and driving significant revenue expansion.
Strong negotiation, strategic planning, and executive communication skills.
Experience leading cross-functional teams in fast-paced, growth-oriented environments.
Strong analytical mindset with expertise in market research and performance metrics.
Preferred Background
Experience in luxury goods, retail, technology, consumer products, healthcare, or international business sectors.
Familiarity with global expansion, partnerships, and omnichannel growth strategies.
