Position Summary
The Buyer II supports boat manufacturing operations by sourcing and procuring composite materials, hardware, and production components essential to building high quality boats.
This role manages suppliers, negotiates pricing and delivery terms, and ensures materials—especially composites—meet quality, performance, and regulatory standards. The Buyer II works with moderate independence and collaborates closely with production, engineering, and materials management teams.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct strategic sourcing initiatives to evaluate suppliers, identify new sources, reduce risk, and improve material performance and cost
- Lead supplier development efforts, including onboarding, capability assessments, performance reviews, corrective actions, and long term improvement planning
- Drive cost management initiatives through cost analysis, benchmarking, competitive quoting, long term agreements, and negotiation strategies
- Identify opportunities for total cost reduction related to material usage, logistics, packaging, inventory, and supplier consolidation
- Support the development of multi year sourcing strategies for composite materials and critical components
- Procure composite materials including fiberglass, carbon fiber, resins, gelcoat, core materials (balsa/foam), adhesives, and related consumables
- Source and evaluate suppliers for marine grade materials and components
- Issue purchase orders in alignment with MRP requirements and production schedules
- Manage supplier relationships and performance, ensuring on time delivery, quality, and cost compliance
- Collaborate with engineering and lamination teams to understand material specs, certifications, and usage requirements
- Monitor material availability and inventory levels to support uninterrupted production
- Resolve issues related to material quality, shelf life concerns, transportation requirements, and price discrepancies
- Work with Quality and Engineering teams on material testing, documentation, and specification changes
- Maintain accurate procurement data including pricing, lead times, and supplier documentation
- Ensure compliance with marine manufacturing standards (ABYC, ISO) and environmental regulations for chemical handling
- Participate in continuous improvement efforts across supply chain and materials management processes
Required Qualifications
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Business or Supply Chain or related field and 3 years purchasing experience.
- 10 years of purchasing experience in manufacturing, marine products, or relevant composite based industries in lieu of a degree
- ERP/MRP systems experience is a must
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel Tables, V-Look up, Sharepoint

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- Must be able to work standing and sitting for long periods of time.
- Must be able to work in heat or cold warehouse conditions.
- Must be ready for Fast Paced, Stressful environment.
