What are the responsibilities and job description for the Vice President of Preconstruction position at Blayze Group?
VP of Preconstruction | Commercial Renovations & Interiors | Boca Raton, FL
$190,000 – $260,000 base salary range bonuses and benefits
Blayze Group is partnering with a national commercial construction and services firm delivering renovation, reconstruction, and capital improvement projects across healthcare, senior living, hospitality, multifamily, office, and retail environments. The business focuses on interior and renovation work executed within active, occupied facilities, where scope clarity, pricing discipline, and operational coordination are critical to success.
To support continued growth, the firm is appointing a VP of Preconstruction reporting directly to the CEO, responsible for bringing structure, consistency, and executive level accountability to pre award decision making across its interiors and renovation portfolio.
This is a senior leadership hire supporting a business that operates exclusively on the general contracting side, delivering high volume renovation and interior construction projects for repeat commercial clients. The company does not build subdivisions, tilt walls in cow fields, or chase speculative megaprojects. This role exists to elevate preconstruction into a disciplined, company wide function that directly influences project selection, pricing strategy, and overall risk.
The position is based in Boca Raton and will play a central role in improving pursuit quality, pricing accuracy, and execution readiness before projects are awarded.
The Role
• Lead all pre award preconstruction activity across the business, setting standards and expectations at an executive level
• Own estimating, budgeting, and pricing strategy from conceptual through final proposal
• Partner directly with the CEO on pursuit strategy, go or no go decisions, and risk evaluation
• Define scope, assumptions, exclusions, and risk clearly for every pursuit
• Coordinate subcontractor bidding, coverage, and leveling for interiors and renovation trades
• Oversee constructability reviews and execution planning for work in occupied facilities
• Lead pre award buyout strategy and early procurement planning
• Serve as the executive point of accountability for preconstruction handoff into operations
• Establish standardized preconstruction processes, tools, and performance metrics across the company
• Mentor and guide preconstruction contributors while influencing alignment with operations leadership
Project Environment
• Commercial interior build outs and renovations
• CapEx and reconstruction work in active, occupied buildings
• Healthcare, senior living, hospitality, multifamily, office, and retail environments
• Fast turn scopes with evolving design and operational constraints
• Typical project values from $50K to $5M, with larger programmatic efforts
Background Sought
• Senior or executive level preconstruction leadership within a commercial general contractor
• Direct experience leading preconstruction for renovation and interior construction projects
• Hands on ownership of estimates, budgets, scopes, and subcontractor coordination
• Demonstrated experience working in occupied or operational facilities
• Credibility with both estimators and operations teams
• Experience building or formalizing preconstruction processes preferred
• Ability to operate effectively in organizations cautious about change
Titles that typically align include VP of Preconstruction, Director of Preconstruction, or senior level Chief Estimator with leadership responsibility.
Candidates without clear GC side renovations or interiors experience should not expect alignment.
Why This Opportunity
This is a rare opportunity to operate at an executive level within a business that understands the commercial impact of strong preconstruction. With direct access to the CEO, you will influence how projects are pursued, priced, and delivered, with the authority to drive discipline and walk away from the wrong work.
