JOB An employee in this class prepares, processes and maintains complete and accurate client records, and performs related clerical and customer service duties as required. Work is performed under general supervision and is evaluated on the basis of attainment of specific performance objectives, personal observation, periodic conferences and analysis of work completed. Requires a high school diploma or GED supplemented by one to two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. Must be able to perform sedentary work exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Must possess the visual acuity to compile data and statistics, operate a computer, proof read materials, and do extensive reading.
Working Conditions
Work in this class is performed primarily in an environmentally controlled office setting and employee is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
Special Requirements
Valid North Carolina driver license

- Answers the telephone; provides accurate information and assistance and/or forwards calls to appropriate personnel; takes messages as necessary.
- Files, retrieves and maintains client records; includes all necessary forms.
- Enters and updates client information on computer record-keeping system.
- Updates and closes out various forms pertaining to children’s services and social workers’ day sheets.
- Types, proofreads and maintains records and reports prepared by department staff.
- Prepares payment / reimbursement requests to appropriate department / agency; receives, receipts and posts various monies.
- Schedules and coordinates appointments for staff / clients as requested.
- Performs a variety of other clerical duties in support of division activities, which include typing various reports and records, compiling information and data, copying and filing documents, sending and receiving faxes, processing daily mail, entering and retrieving computer data, maintaining lists and logs, etc.
- Operates a variety of equipment, which includes a computer, printer, typewriter, fax machine, copier, telephone, calculator, paper shredder, etc.; uses clerical and computer supplies.
- Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the immediate supervisor, co-workers, other County personnel, other government agencies, and the general public.
- Attends meetings, training, workshops, etc., as required to enhance job knowledge and skills.
- Provides clerical assistance to other divisions as requested.
- Performs related duties as required.
