Qualifications
- Certified by the National Athletic Trainers' Association
- Holds the Athletic Trainer Standard Certificate from the Department of Education
- Maintains Registration as an Athletic Trainer with the Department of Law and Public Safety.
- Must hold an active State Board of Medical Examiner's Certificate.
JOB GOAL: Responsible for the care and prevention of athletic injuries under the general

Performance Responsibilities
- Supervises the operation of the athletic training room and maintains the athletic training equipment and supplies.
- Recommends the purchase of expendable and non-expendable items necessary for athletic training functions.
- Maintains an inventory of supplies and equipment necessary for athletic training functions.
- Maintains adequate first aid supplies and equipment.
- Recommends and assists in fitting protective equipment for safety and the prevention of injuries.
- Assists the Athletic Director and coaching staff in the selection of equipment.
- Reports hazardous playing conditions and makes appropriate recommendations.
- Monitors unsafe environmental/weather conditions and makes appropriate recommendations.
- Prepares accident reports for injured athletes in conjunction with the coach and school nurse.
- Maintains proper record keeping for all injuries.
- Maintains a treatment/rehabilitation log.
- Assists coaches in the design of conditioning programs.
- Serves as a health advisor to the coaching staff.
- Performs first-aid techniques as required.
- Arranges professional medical care in the event of injury to either home or visiting teams. Communicates with parent/guardian on the athlete's injury.
- Communicates with parent/guardian when medical referrals are necessary as our Board Policy dictates.
- Is knowledgeable in application of rehabilitation techniques and therapeutic modalities available in the athletic training room.
- Implements rehabilitation programs for injured athletes.
- Maintains contact with referring or consulting physicians and conducts rehabilitation programs according to their prescriptions.
- Assists in making appropriate decisions on an injured athlete's return to play/participate.
- Applies tapings, wraps, and bandaging when necessary.
- The athletic trainer is informed on the physiology of exercise and confers with coaches as it relates to their specific sports.
- Is informed on the topic of skin infections and will make the necessary referrals.
- Is knowledgeable in normal tissue healing and repair processes.
- Encourages good healthy habits related to diet, personal hygiene, drugs, and personal fitness.
- Is well-informed on the rules and tactics used during athletic competition.
- Under the direction of the medical inspector and the Athletic Director, tries to ensure that all athletes are medically approved to participate.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
- The athletic trainer will be available for all onsite home games and scrimmages, as well as all varsity football games (home and away), and most practices.
- The athletic trainer will attend tournament competitions, unless a conflict arises. (Athletic Director will be consulted.)
- When making his/her schedule, the athletic trainer's first priority is to allow coverage for games and scrimmages.
- The athletic trainer's availability will vary from week to week depending on the number of scheduled games and/or scrimmages. Coverage for practices will be determined on a weekly basis and approved by the Athletic Director.
- The athletic trainer will submit his/her schedule to the Athletic Director a week in advance for approval.
