Summary of the Role:
BEPC is seeking a highly motivated Oligonucleotide Scientist II to join our client’s site in South San Francisco, CA. This role will support the Nucleic Acid Design and Discovery (NADD) team within the Protein Sciences department by contributing to oligonucleotide therapeutics discovery through oligonucleotide synthesis, nucleic acid chemistry, therapeutic strategy development, and collaboration across interdisciplinary research teams. The successful candidate will work within an interdisciplinary chemistry team focused on RNAi biology research while supporting the development of new oligonucleotide therapeutics.
Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work in an oligonucleotide therapeutic drug discovery research laboratory and collaborate across therapeutic areas including neuroscience, immunology, and oncology to help build a comprehensive therapeutic discovery strategy.
- Perform oligonucleotide synthesis and support therapeutic discovery research.
- Troubleshoot oligonucleotide synthesis processes; experience with impurity profiling is a plus.
- Collaborate with scientists to maintain laboratory equipment including:
- Oligonucleotide synthesizers
- HPLC systems
- Desalting units
- Perform literature reviews.
- Propose and execute nucleic acid chemistry plans.
- Coordinate chemistry and biology data to support oligonucleotide compound progression.
- Establish methods for scaled-up synthesis of lead molecules.
- Coordinate material delivery for preclinical studies.
- Maintain a high level of laboratory productivity to support timelines for in vitro and in vivo studies.
Main Qualifications:
Education: BS or MS in Organic Chemistry or a related discipline.
Technical Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience.
- Hands-on experience with:
- Oligonucleotide synthesis using automated oligonucleotide synthesizers
- Novel nucleic acid chemistry
- Oligonucleotide purification
- Oligonucleotide characterization using HPLC
- Mass spectrometry
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Highly motivated and able to work collaboratively in a laboratory environment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in oligonucleotide discovery and synthesis.
- Experience in delivery of oligonucleotide therapeutics.
- Experience in large molecule drug discovery.
- Pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry experience in research and development of RNAi therapeutics.
- Understanding of:
- Nucleic acid therapeutic modalities
- Modification chemistries
- Sequence selection
- Mechanism of action
- Relevant experience in:
- Oligonucleotide therapeutics
- Large molecule drug discovery
- Oligonucleotide delivery
- Bio-conjugation
- Experience with impurity profiling.
