Full-Time Activities Aide - 12:00pm to 8:30pm, Monday through Friday - Every 3rd or 4th weekend rotation.
??Provides assistance to the Activities Director in the development, implementation and coordination of social and recreational programs for residents at the Bedford County Nursing Home.?
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Leads social and recreational programs to include both group and individual activities.
Assists in selecting reading materials, crafts, writing materials, games, etc.
Supervises games, crafts, musical programs, parties, religious services, resident outings, and other activities under the leadership of Activities Director.
Transports residents to and from activities.
Provides input for resident care plan conference.
Develops and maintains positive rapport with other departments.
Decorates facility for holidays and events, or as requested.
Performs activity preparation duties.
Provides general assistance to nurses in attending to the needs of the residents.
Provides input in developing departmental policies and procedures.
Implements programs which will assist in achieving and maintaining the highest level of functioning of residents.
Provides input into development and maintenance of records, plans, reports and evaluations of the activities program and resident participation.
Maintains compliance with rules and regulations for licensure of nursing homes and medical standards.
Drives facility vehicles (once trained) to transport residents to and from events.
Participates in employee meetings and training as needed.
Performs special projects as assigned.
Consistently demonstrates ability to respond to changing situations in a flexible manner to meet current needs and reprioritizes work as necessary.
Other related job duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Must possess a valid and current motor vehicle driver’s license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of therapeutic recreational and social programs.
Knowledge of the specialized needs of the nursing home clientele.
Knowledge of customer service best practices.
Skill in the use of computers and software applications related to the essential functions of the job.
Ability to develop effective social and recreational programs.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with residents, volunteers, other employees, and residents’ families.
Ability to communicate ideas effectively orally and in writing; ability to prepare records and reports.
Physical Requirements:
The work is light work which requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or 10 pounds of force frequently or constantly. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required:
Standing: Standing for sustained periods of time.
Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
Feeling: Perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature, or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips.
Repetitive motion: Substantial movements (motions) of the wrist, hands, and/or fingers.
Speaking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word including the ability to convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately and concisely.
Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discrimination in sound.
Visual acuity: Have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; and/or extensive reading.
Environmental Factors:
May be required to work overtime, weekends, holiday as defined by the needs of the department.
This worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions.
Worker may be exposed to blood borne pathogens and infective agents and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment.
Special/Additional Requirements:
Subject to a complete criminal history background search and drug screening with acceptable results.
