Performs intermediate, semiskilled, and clerical work in animal care, public contact, and cleaning of premises in animal control operations; does related work as required. Work is performed under regular supervision.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintains feeding and watering for animals according to schedules; inspects health of animals.
- Cleans, grooms, and returns animals to cages.
- Cleans and maintains office, premises, and animal areas.
- Answers phone calls and assists customers.
- Assists with volunteer program; trains volunteers.
- Pick up supplies and donations.
- Assigns animals tracking numbers.
- Stocks and maintains supplies and storage area.
- Performs special projects as assigned.
- Meets attendance requirements and maintains the highest level of dependability. Work assigned schedule and responsible for clocking in and out accurately.
- Consistently demonstrates ability to respond to changing situations in a flexible manner in order to meet current needs and reprioritizes work as necessary.
Qualifications
Education / Experience
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and some experience in working with and caring for animals.
Knowledge / Skills / and Abilities
Some knowledge of small animal care and behavior; skill in handling animals; skill in cleaning and general custodial duties; ability to deal effectively and tactfully with the public; ability to prepare and maintain files and records; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.
Physical Requirements
This is heavy work requiring exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Works requires stooping, standing, walking, lifting, and grasping; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; the worker is subject to noise and atmospheric conditions.

Requirements
The worker will be required to work weekends and holidays as defined by the needs of the department. This position is designated as essential personnel. In accordance with the County's personnel policy, essential personnel are critical to the continuation of key operations and services and are expected to report to work, unless otherwise directed by management, in all weather conditions.
