JOB SUMMARY:
The Career Advisor supports the mission of the College and the Center for Career Preparation by providing individualized career advising, professional development programming, and experiential learning support for Beacon College students and alumni. This campus-based role assists students in exploring career pathways, preparing for internships and employment, and developing essential career readiness competencies.
The Career Advisor works closely with the Director, Center staff, faculty, and internal and external campus partners to promote career preparation initiatives that support the success of neurodiverse learners and prepare students for meaningful employment and continued professional growth.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND TASKS:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in related field or relevant experience.
Licensing: Maintain a valid Florida driver’s license and an acceptable motor vehicle report (MVR) are required to drive Beacon College vehicles.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND TASKS:
Student Career Advising and Coaching
- Build supportive, professional relationships with students to strengthen engagement, confidence, and career readiness among neurodiverse learners.
- Provide individualized career advising for students and alumni through in‑person and virtual meetings.
- Assist with developing major‑specific resumes, cover letters, portfolios, and other materials needed for internships and early employment. Guide students in identifying and applying for internships, experiential learning, and entry‑level roles.
- Research and share targeted “Head Start” lists of internship and career opportunities by major. Help students prepare for interviews—both in person and virtual—using tools like Big Interview, as well as through networking events and career fairs.
- Support students in completing required experiential learning hours by monitoring their progress and coordinating with the Director and campus partners. Track hours, deadlines, and evaluations, and communicate updates or needed support to students and staff.
- Ensure students meet key milestones and submit employer evaluations on time.
- Collaborate across campus to connect students with career fairs, programs, services, and employer engagement opportunities.
- Develop and facilitate workshops that build core career‑readiness skills, including time management, executive functioning, communication, and interviewing. Increase student engagement through targeted outreach for key career programs.
- Contribute to planning and delivering Career Center initiatives that support career exploration and professional development for students and alumni.
- Document advising interactions and track student progress using Microsoft 365 and approved platforms.
- Maintain accurate records in Handshake to support program tracking and student success, and share internship and career opportunities with students based on assigned majors.
- Provide regular updates to the Director on experiential learning progress, with emphasis on graduating seniors.
- Manage data tracking for the Career Closet 2.0 program, ensuring accurate voucher logging and alignment with donor funding.
- Collaborate with MyCareerCloset administrators to streamline processes and support users, lead onboarding for students and alumni, promote the program across campus, and assist with the Beacon Loft clothing loaner program as needed.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with faculty and academic departments to support a campus‑wide culture of career readiness.
- Represent the Career Center on designated committees and participate in campus events, admissions tours, and outreach to prospective students and families.
- Coordinate with external partners to support student participation in career programs and events.
- Attend scheduled Career Center team meetings and contribute to collaborative planning.
- Maintain professionalism in a student-centered, service-oriented environment and adhere to all Beacon College policies and procedures. Participate in required college meetings, training, and events.
- Pursue approved professional development to strengthen advising and student support skills.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

- Experience in career development and student advising practices within higher education.
- Familiarity with career services technology platforms such as Handshake, Big Interview, and other digital career advising tools.
- Knowledge of job search strategies, including résumé and cover letter development, interview preparation, and professional networking.
- Ability to understand employer expectations, workforce trends, and early‑career pathways.
- Ability to provide effective career advising and coaching, communicate clearly with diverse learners, and manage multiple advising and program responsibilities with strong organization and time management skills.
- Ability to offer constructive feedback on professional materials, deliver engaging presentations and workshops, and use technology and cloud‑based systems for documentation and student support.
- Maintain accurate records, communicate complex concepts clearly, protect confidential information, and contribute positively to an inclusive, student‑centered environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to scaffold, explain career development concepts clearly and effectively to students with diverse learning styles and needs.
- Capable of driving a Beacon Vehicle or Personal Vehicle for official local or regional work duties.
- Ability to work occasional nights and weekends as program needs dictate.
