Lead the Header Line with purpose
As an hourly shop-floor leader, you will guide Assembly personnel to hit daily output and advance longer-term initiatives assigned by the Team Leader. You’ll operate as a servant leader, owning execution of the department’s strategy and living BAC’s values of Earning Trust, Embracing Responsibility, Showing Courage, and Driving Innovation. Your north star is simple: do the right thing, the right way.
A day in the life
You begin with a safety walk and a Toolbox talk, reinforcing standards and making sure the right PPE is in use. You flex manpower across stations to keep the line balanced and production goals on track. Throughout the shift, you coordinate with Sheet Metal, BBD, and other partners to secure materials on time, jump in to safely operate jib or overhead cranes when needed, and keep communication flowing so every mechanic has the information, tools, and parts to succeed.
You monitor process discipline and quality, model LEAN and 5S excellence, and take independent action to remove blockers the moment they appear. You coach teammates, provide real-time feedback, and uphold BAC standards for safety, quality, and productivity—counseling when expectations aren’t met. When incidents occur, you help lead detailed accident investigations. You track objectives with the Team Leader and deliver quarterly feedback. New hires get a thoughtful start through a Buddy & Mentor pairing and weekly follow-ups you facilitate.
When the Team Leader is out, you run the department. You’re also an active member of cross-functional and regional teams, driving sustainability by reducing waste, energy, and water use—and turning original ideas into tangible business improvements.
What you’ll own
- Team and personal safety; enforce all safety rules and proper use of safety equipment.
- Continuous improvement culture and LEAN behaviors, including 5S and the elimination of the 7 wastes.
- Manpower planning and flexing to meet Assembly Line targets; coverage for alternate shifts when the operation requires it.
- Clear communication and effective delegation based on skills and accountabilities; lead Toolbox and other communication meetings.
- Thorough understanding of current Assembly equipment, methods, and standard work; follow Shift Leader Standard Work.
- Objective-setting in partnership with the Team Leader and timely quarterly feedback.
- Partnership with Sheet Metal, BBD, and other internal groups to protect the schedule.
- Safe operation of jib and overhead cranes to lift, move, and position components.
- Support with annual performance reviews and completion of detailed accident investigations.
- Onboarding, skills training, and maintenance of the department skills matrix (Buddy & Mentor program with weekly follow-up).
- Process discipline and adherence to quality standards; coach and counsel when safety, quality, or productivity fall short.
- Innovation and sustainability initiatives that translate new ideas into results.
- Other duties as requested and assigned.
Nature & scope
You report to the department Team Leader or Supervisor as part of the leadership team. You share responsibility for department goals and, in the Team Leader’s absence, you run the area. You may also participate on cross-functional and regional teams.
Skills that set you up for success
- Proven frontline leadership: leading, delegating, and following up; develops high-performing teams and grows senior mechanics into influencers and mentors.
- Independent judgment, strong ownership, and a sharp sense for changing schedules and priorities.
- Deep product familiarity with BAC models and parts.
- Clear, professional communication in English (written and spoken). Able to document processes and communicate effectively with mechanics, technical experts, customers, supervisors, and co-workers (memos and emails that are concise and professional).
- Strong verbal communication—technically accurate and easily understood.
- Understanding of plant IPI and CAP programs.
- Certified operation of lifting devices (overhead and JIB cranes).
- Comfort leading meetings and delivering presentations.
- Continuous Improvement toolkit and structured problem-solving capability.
- Computer fluency: Word, Excel, Peoplesoft, Internet, and ADI; intermediate Excel skills for updating data and generating metrics.
- Knowledge of LEAN (5S, Gemba, and identifying the 7 wastes).
- Thorough knowledge of procedures, policies, and ISO instructions to ensure product quality.
- Collaboration with engineers, including providing technical information and initiating engineering change requests.

Exposures include elevated noise levels associated with a manufacturing environment, fluctuations in temperature ambient conditions as well as intermittent exposure to the weather in and about the yard and dock areas. Occasional weekend work is typical, and availability is expected for any of the three operating shifts.
