The Business Development Manager drives profitable growth by creating new business opportunities and strengthening customer relationships across industrial, utility, and construction markets. This role combines business development, technical expertise, and customer engagement to grow aftermarket products, services, and project work. The position partners with customers, Sales, and technical teams to develop high‑value projects, guiding initiatives from concept through execution to ensure strategic alignment and long‑term profitability.
- Develop the strategy for and manage the execution of the B&W project development efforts - FastPower projects are about working closely with the team to find the way to say “yes” to a customer who wants a project deployed on a quick turn basis. Must be able to work in an environment filled with ambiguity, and help to clarify those points as the project progresses.
- Maintain a working knowledge of industry trends and competitive positioning effecting the new build generation ecosystem.
- Researches and analyzes historical data, develops cost models to support proposal efforts.
- Participates in should-cost and pricing reviews with management and customer representatives.
- Will lead the development of the projects as well as the selection of partners/EPC teams, in conjunction with Sales, and will develop the relationship with the ultimate Owner/Operator as well as potential EPCs
- Manage the Go/No-Go and Bid/No Bid Meetings: Insure that good business judgments and decisions are made during these meetings. Document meetings with meeting minutes.
- Work closely with Sales and Business Development to ensure strategy is developed on each opportunity and work with proposal teams to turn those strategies into actionable tactics and tasks.
- Seeks management approval of major commercial terms early in the process.
- Ensures that proposals have compelling value propositions, technical accuracy, and competitive positioning.
- Accountable for the Commercial Terms mark-ups and negotiations, and works closely with Legal to make certain Business requirements are met while minimizing word-smithing.
- Coach and manage the proposal teams on the development of accurate and compelling responses to RFPs.
- Develop negotiation strategies and gain alignment from stakeholders.
- Leads the contract negotiating team and closes the deal.
- Participates in turnover of the project to the Project Manager and team.
