Laboratory Technician

Brief Summary:

The Lab Technician is required to conduct all lab mechanical testing including tensile, charpy and root guided bend testing, chemical analysis, hardness testing, micro hardness testing, grain size evaluations and weld profiles. Lab Technician is responsible for supporting the welding line by testing and inspecting ERW pipe at various stages of the
 production process and compiling and evaluating statistical data to determine and maintain quality and reliability of products.

Responsibilities:

• Responsible for traceability of all test specimens and records.
 • Responsible for reporting test results and data entry in data base.
 • Responsible for product release for shipment.
 • This position is required to conduct all lab mechanical testing including tensile, charpy and root guided bend testing, chemical analysis, hardness testing, micro hardness testing, grain size evaluations and weld profiles.
 • This position ensures all products are tested and meet specification and customer requirements.
 • This position will also oversee all test specimen preparation and lab assistant (machinist).
 • Evaluation of welding sample according to product frequency.
 • Collect welding reports associated with welding.
 • Check performance of flattening sample to production.

• Discuss with the welding operator the evaluation results and the potential resolution to improve priority weld.
 • Create and maintain the database and various reports.
 • Basic housekeeping in general work area.
 • Responsible for completing any assignments given by supervisor, even those assignments not specifically listed in this job description.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
 • Associate Degree in related field preferred
 • 2 Years equivalent experience in related field OR, Proof of training in an area related to the job assignment
 • Reasonable knowledge in hand-held measuring devices and machining, surface grinding, operation of band saws, plasma cutting
 • Moderate to Advanced PC Skills in Microsoft Applications, i.e., MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint
 • Able to read, write, speak, and understand sufficiently to follow job and safety requirements.
 • Prefer 2-3 years of lab experience.

Physical Requirements:

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand; walk; use hands to fingers, hands to feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk and hear.
 • The employee frequently is required to climb, balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and detect smell. The employee is occasionally required to sit.
 • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
