What are the responsibilities and job description for the Injection Mold Tooling Repair Specialist position at Axion Recruitment?
Injection Mold Tooling Repair Specialist
Location: Germantown, WI
Schedule: 6:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m., Monday–Friday (flexible)
Compensation: $32–$42 per hour $5,000 sign-on bonus
Employment Type: Direct hire, permanent | Openings: 2
A day in your role
You start the morning reviewing the production board and triaging mold maintenance priorities. A hot runner cavity needs attention, so you pull the tool, diagnose the issue, and machine a replacement component on the mill. After verifying dimensions on the surface grinder, you reinstall the tool and fine-tune the setup to keep production flowing. Before lunch, you collaborate with engineering on a tooling modification to extend component life, and in the afternoon, you complete preventative maintenance on a complex injection mold—logging actions, recommending improvements, and preparing for the next shift.
What you will handle
- Repair, troubleshoot, and perform preventative maintenance on plastic injection molds
- Service and fine-tune hot runner systems and complex tooling assemblies
- Operate toolroom equipment: mills, lathes, and surface grinders
- Fabricate or source replacement tooling components to spec
- Drive continuous improvement and execute tooling modifications
- Partner closely with internal tooling and engineering teams
- Leverage CNC machines/programming where beneficial
What sets you up for success
- 4 years in toolmaking or mold repair (injection molding focused)
- Demonstrated strength with plastic injection molds and diagnostics
- Proficiency with manual toolroom equipment; CNC experience a plus
- Working knowledge of injection molding processes and materials
- Apprenticeship in Tool & Die or equivalent hands-on background preferred
Why this role
- High-impact work in a technical plastics manufacturing environment
- Stable, first-shift hours with flexibility
- Direct hire stability and strong hourly compensation
