About the Role:
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Functional Safety Engineer to join our team. In this critical role, you will be responsible for ensuring the functional safety of our vehicle systems, from concept development through to production. You will play a key part in establishing and maintaining compliance with ISO 26262 standards, collaborating with global and local engineering teams, and driving safety excellence across our programs.
Key Responsibilities:
· Functional Safety Leadership: Lead and execute functional safety activities throughout the product lifecycle, ensuring adherence to safety standards and processes.
· Safety Process Management: Establish and maintain local ownership of global safety processes, ensuring consistent application and compliance.
· Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment (HARA): Develop and refine Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessments (HARA) to identify and mitigate potential safety risks.
· Functional Safety Concept (FSC) Development: Create and document Functional Safety Concepts (FSC) to define safety requirements and architectural solutions.
· Design Review Participation: Actively participate in design reviews, provide critical feedback and ensuring safety considerations are integrated early in the development process.
· Liaison and Communication: Act as a primary liaison between Global Safety teams, North American Engineering, and various Program Teams to ensure seamless communication and alignment on safety objectives.
· Safety Case and Assessment Support: Provide comprehensive support for the development of Department Safety Cases and assist with Safety Assessments.
· Issue Tracking and Escalation: Proactively track and escalate safety-related issues, ensuring timely resolution and mitigation.
· Work Product Alignment: Ensure alignment of local work products with global team standards and deliverables.
· ISO 26262 Compliance: Apply ISO 26262 requirements rigorously and support internal and external audits to maintain compliance.
· Reporting and Communication: Provide regular safety status reports for departments, manage department escalations, and lead department safety meetings.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
· 5-8 years of proven experience in functional safety engineering, preferably within the automotive industry.
· Experience in any of the automotive components like Chassis or Powertrain or Interior or Connectivity or Infotainment etc.
· Strong understanding and practical application of ISO 26262 standards.
· Experience in developing HARAs and Functional Safety Concepts (FSCs).
· Ability to lead and manage functional safety activities independently.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively liaise with diverse teams (Global Safety, Engineering, Program Teams).
· Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
· Proficiency in tracking and reporting safety metrics and issues.
· Experience participating in design reviews and providing constructive feedback.
· Ability to work effectively in both onshore and offshore team environments.
