Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Global Electrical Discipline Lead to join a high-performing Global Engineering team supporting capital projects and manufacturing sites worldwide, with a primary focus on the Industrial Segment.
This role will serve as the electrical engineering subject matter expert (SME) across a global footprint, providing technical leadership, standards ownership, and project support related to electrical systems, compliance, safety, and reliability. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in industrial electrical systems, hazardous area classifications, power system studies, and capital project execution within a manufacturing environment.
This position is based in the Pittsburgh, PA area and offers a hybrid work schedule. Candidates located outside of metro Pittsburgh may also be considered if they are commutable to a plant or manufacturing site.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the global electrical engineering SME for manufacturing sites and capital projects.
- Lead and support electrical hazardous area classification evaluations across global facilities (North America, Europe, Asia, etc.) and ensure appropriate electrical system design requirements are met.
- Develop, review, and standardize electrical equipment specifications, including certification requirements such as CE, ATEX, NRTL, and factory acceptance testing (FAT) requirements.
- Support incident investigations involving electrical system failures or safety events to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
- Conduct and support site power system capacity, reliability, and safety assessments, including:
- Load studies
- Arc flash studies
- Relay coordination studies
- Harmonic studies
- End-of-life equipment assessments
- Provide electrical and utility engineering support for capital project development and execution.
- Participate in and lead electrical discipline peer reviews during project development.
- Define and support factory testing, field testing, commissioning, and startup requirements for electrical systems.
- Support cost estimates, material take-offs, and engineering scope development within the electrical discipline.
- Lead and support electrical safe work practice training and evaluations.
- Mentor plant teams, engineering partners, and contractors on electrical engineering best practices.
- Promote safe, reliable, and cost-effective electrical solutions that improve project execution and operational performance.
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and certification requirements for electrical equipment and installations.
- Audit manufacturing facilities for electrical compliance, documentation accuracy, and maintenance program effectiveness, and provide technical recommendations.
- Evaluate and recommend emerging technologies related to electrical systems and equipment.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
- 20 years of electrical engineering experience supporting manufacturing facilities and/or capital projects
- Strong experience with industrial electrical systems and electrical engineering design
- Deep understanding of global electrical codes, standards, and compliance requirements, including:
- NEC
- NFPA
- IEEE
- OSHA
- IEC
- FM Global
- UL
- NETA
- ANSI
- NEMA
- Experience with electrical studies, equipment specification, and power system analysis
- Experience collaborating with international suppliers, contractors, and engineering teams
- Ability and willingness to travel 25%–50%, including international travel
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in chemical manufacturing, industrial manufacturing, or other process manufacturing environments
- Experience supporting capital project management and execution
- Strong background in hazardous/classified electrical environments
