Job Description
Auriga Polymers Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Indorama Ventures PLC is seeking an Analytical Chemist to join our group located at our Spartanburg, SC facility. We are looking for a highly motivated professional with demonstrated capabilities. A successful individual in this role must have strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment.
Responsibilities:
- Key resin innovation team member
- Ensure ability to characterize new materials using current or develop new methods
- Complete analytical testing and facilitate data reviews to enable accelerated learning
- Provide well written documentation with clarity on conclusions and potential next steps
- Develop methods, write SOPs, and conduct gage R&R studies, to ensure method performance and ability to transfer efficiently from R&D to commercial labs
- Active participant in ideation and brainstorming sessions
- Ensure that the Critical-to-Satisfaction (CTS) design documentation has the proper specifications and ability to measure necessary characteristics in support of quality and performance
- Work with cross-functional group to ensure results meet project time and quality expectations
- Perform all activities in accordance with safety policies and requirements, including wearing necessary PPE
- Identify opportunities to accelerate the new product development cycle by implementing, acquiring, or developing new and improved analytical test methods
- Utilize Six Sigma processes and tools to benefit problem solving and method development
- Understanding of Wet Chemistry
- Ability to make standard solutions
- Knowledge of DSC, TGA, GPC, GC/GCMS, HPLC, SEM/EDX, PSA
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, Material Science, or similar field
- Polymer or Organic chemistry knowledge desired
- Self-starter, ability to work with minimal supervision
- Ability to multi-task and work well in Teams
- 3 years working in R&D labs and on design projects
- Effective utilizing instrumentation such as GC/GCMS, HPLC, DSC, TGA, GPC, SEM and FT-IR to solve problems in a R&D setting.
- Capable of analyzing data using statistical software tools such as Minitab
- Credible Six Sigma or Lean Six Sigma experiences
- Capable of safely handling and disposing of chemicals
- Ability to complete routine instrumentation maintenance, trouble shooting and minor repairs
- Ability to interact with external labs and vendors
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to satisfy all the physical requirements and working conditions for this position with or without reasonable accommodation for this position.
- Ability to stand/walk on hard surfaces (concrete, steel, wood) for significant amounts of time.
- Ability to reach with hands and arms elevated above shoulder level or elbows held away from body.
- Ability to flex, extend, rotate all arms, wrists, neck
- Ability to bend, squat, and kneel
- Lift and/or move up to 40 lbs & push/pull 100 pounds.
- Willing and able to wear and use prescribed personal protective equipment
