Position Overview
We re seeking a strategic and highly organized Managing Editor to oversee the full lifecycle of book development - from concept through publication ensuring all operational precision, managing cross-functional collaboration across design, editorial, photography, and production teams. As a peer to department heads and a key driver of execution, the Managing Editor must possess the seniority and confidence to direct timelines and workflows across teams, while maintaining a collaborative, solutions-oriented mindset. This role will also be responsible for team assignments across projects and for adjusting schedules dynamically to mitigate bottlenecks and delays.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the planning and execution of all publishing projects, managing creative timelines and deliverables using Asana.
- Coordinating with design, editorial, photo, and production leads to assign team members to specific titles based on capacity, expertise, and project scope.
- Work with leadership teams to develop and maintain project timelines, workflows, and schedules, coordinating with editors, designers, and production teams.
- Monitor weekly progress on all active projects, proactively identifying risks or delays and reallocating resources as needed.
- Act as the central point of accountability for ensuring book production aligns with schedule commitments, quality standards, and commercial timelines.
- Partner with the Creative Director and President to align publishing schedule with brand strategy, sales windows, and supply chain realities.
- Lead weekly publishing status meetings, ensuring team alignment and clear next steps across departments.
- Maintain visibility across all project dependencies to minimize disruption and streamline critical path activities.
- Support continuous improvement of internal processes, documentation, and workflows to optimize creative output.
Qualifications:
- 8 years of experience in publishing, creative production, or project management within a fast-paced, design-focused environment.
- Proven ability to manage cross-functional creative teams and complex project schedules with multiple simultaneous deadlines.
- Master of Asan or similar project management tools.
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with the confidence to hold peers accountable in a respectful and results-driven manner.
- Deep understanding of how publishing timelines impact supply chain, inventory management, and commercial outcomes.
- Exceptional organizational and problem-solving skills, with a solutions-first attitude and the ability to pivot quickly.
Please note: This role is based in our New York office and requires in-person attendance five days a week.

The appointed candidate will be offered a salary within the range of $110,000 - $120,000 annually. Please note that the foregoing compensation information is a good-faith assessment associated with this position only and is provided pursuant to the New York City Salary Transparency Law.
