The luxury book publisher, founded by Prosper and Martine Assouline, has published over 1,500 titles across international markets on subjects including architecture, art, design, fashion, gastronomy, lifestyle, photography, and travel.
Assouline Publishing is seeking an art director to join its creative team. The candidate selected for this position will work directly with Creative Director alongside art directors and designers in the publisher’s design studio all while earning covetable experience working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Candidates should have excellent communication, multi-tasking, and creative conceptualization skills. They should be adept at working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment and have the ability to juggle multiple projects at once.
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Reporting to creative director, an art director is responsible for approximately 20 luxury book projects per year
- Work with Creative Director, Editors, and Publishers from concept stage to finish
- Set up templates, design layouts, route materials within deadlines, gather files for the printer
- Instruct designers to execute the ideas
- Direct in-house photo/video shoots
- Conduct art/image research
- Prepare files for reprints
- Liaise with outside departments, including Editorial, Communications, and Production
- Take an active role in understanding book production processes and issues
- Archive completed files on a server for reprint updates
- Attend weekly status meetings
Qualifications:
- Minimum 7 years print experience, with prior experience in the luxury industry a plus
- In-depth knowledge of offset print production
- Excellent sense of aesthetic design and a keen eye for typography, visual hierarchy, composition
- Meticulous attention to detail and an ongoing commitment to achieving high-quality results
- Clear and effective communication skills in articulating design concepts and rationales
- Excellent organizational skills, a natural collaborator, but can work well independently
- Ability to prioritize and multi-task, meeting various deadlines at once
- Excellent knowledge of Mac OS and Adobe Creative Suite applications: InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator

The appointed candidate will be offered a salary within the range of $120,000-$125,000 annually. Please note that the forgoing compensation information is a good-faith assessment associated with this position only and is provided pursuant to the New York City Salary Transparency Law.
