Senior Supplier Quality SpecialistPosition Summary
The Senior Supplier Quality Specialist leads the development and implementation of supplier quality and performance programs to ensure materials, equipment, and services meet established project and client requirements. This role supports quality assurance initiatives across industrial construction and equipment manufacturing projects while ensuring compliance with company standards, industry codes, and client specifications.
The ideal candidate has extensive experience in supplier quality, welding and materials inspection, and industrial construction environments, with the ability to lead inspections, manage supplier performance, and resolve complex quality issues.
Key Responsibilities- Lead project planning efforts related to supplier surveillance and expediting activities.
- Develop and manage project inspection budgets and monitor expenditures.
- Conduct and lead supplier and shop inspections to verify compliance with specifications and quality standards.
- Analyze existing quality processes and implement improvements to enhance supplier quality performance.
- Develop inspection instructions, inspection specifications, and inspection test plan (ITP) guidelines.
- Oversee the preparation and presentation of inspection assignment packages.
- Select, coordinate, and authorize inspection resources and schedules.
- Lead pre-inspection meetings and provide guidance to inspectors and supplier quality personnel.
- Review and approve inspection logs, schedules, and Nonconformance Reports (NCRs).
- Manage equipment and material release processes.
- Present supplier quality and procurement reports to project teams, vendors, and clients.
- Track and communicate outstanding quality issues and corrective actions.
- Lead lessons learned reviews and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
- Troubleshoot and resolve quality issues involving suppliers, clients, and project teams.
- Provide mentorship, training, and leadership to supplier quality personnel.
- Ensure compliance with all company policies, safety standards, and industry regulations.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Candidates must meet one of the following combinations of education and experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Welding Technology, Supplier Quality, Engineering, or a related field with 7 years of experience in quality control within industrial construction and/or equipment manufacturing; OR
- Associate degree in a related field with 9 years of relevant experience; OR
- High school diploma or GED with 11 years of relevant experience.
- Experience with welding and materials inspection on large construction or industrial projects.
- Previous experience working with an EPC contractor preferred.
- Strong understanding of internationally recognized quality standards and codes.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Candidates should possess one or more of the following certifications or qualifications:
- AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI), SCWI, CSWIP, EWI, EWT, EWE, IIW/EWF Diploma, or BGAS
- NDT qualifications such as RT, PT, UT, MT, VT, or RTFI
- NACE, Frosio, ICorr, ICAT, or other coating/painting certifications
- ASME Authorized Inspector certifications
- API certifications including API 653, API 570, API 510, API 936, or API Source Inspector
- ISO 9001 Lead Auditor certification
- OSHA/HSSE certifications such as NEBOSH, IOSH, IEMA, NIOSH, or equivalent
- ASQ Quality Engineer, Technician, or Inspector certifications
- Valid driver's license required
- Approximately 25% travel, including supplier visits, field assignments, and client meetings.
This position primarily operates in an office and industrial project environment. The role may require:
- Sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods
- Use of standard office equipment and computer systems
- Occasional lifting of up to 10 pounds
- Travel to supplier facilities, construction sites, and client locations
- Ability to work in industrial environments and conduct field inspections as needed
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
