Job Title: Senior Mechanical Engineer (Contract-to-Hire)

Position Overview
We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join a growing Nuclear team supporting the delivery of complex industrial projects. This role offers the opportunity to contribute across the full project lifecycle—from early concept development through detailed engineering, construction, and commissioning.
The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise, leadership capability, and experience in regulated industrial environments. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop practical, high-quality solutions aligned with project objectives, client requirements, and industry standards. This position also provides opportunities to take on technical leadership responsibilities within a collaborative and safety-focused environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesProject & Technical Leadership
- Serve as Project Discipline Lead, ensuring mechanical design activities align with scope, schedule, and budget.
- Lead or support a team of engineers and designers to achieve project deliverables.
- Deliver mechanical engineering services that meet internal, client, and regulatory standards.
- Participate in project planning, progress reporting, and established design review processes.
- Define project scope clearly and manage changes in accordance with project controls.
- Support procurement, construction, and commissioning activities, including:
- Preparing equipment requisitions
- Conducting technical bid evaluations
- Reviewing vendor drawings and documentation
- Act as Mechanical Lead on assigned projects.
Team Coordination & Collaboration
- Assign tasks, monitor progress, and promote efficient workshare across teams.
- Ensure deliverables are completed on time and within budget.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to resolve technical issues.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to knowledge sharing across the team.
- Maintain awareness of industry trends, innovations, and evolving standards.
- Communicate effectively with clients, stakeholders, and project teams.
- Strong experience in mechanical engineering within nuclear, refining, chemical, petrochemical, or similar industrial environments.
- Proven experience supporting multiple project phases—from concept through detailed design and execution.
- Hands-on experience with:
- Rotating equipment
- HVAC systems
- AutoCAD
- Solid understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals and cross-discipline coordination.
- Familiarity with applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements (nuclear experience preferred).
- Proficiency with engineering tools and standard business software (e.g., Microsoft Office).
- Experience working in multidisciplinary, project-driven environments.
- Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
- Minimum of 8 years of relevant engineering experience, including nuclear sector experience.
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in the United States.
- Ability to obtain PE licensure in West Virginia.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
- Willingness to work in or relocate to the Charleston, WV area.
