Director - Construction Project Management (Contract-to-Hire)

Our client is seeking an experienced and strategic Director of Construction Project Management to lead a large-scale, ground-up data center project in the Piedmont region of Virginia. This is a high-impact leadership role responsible for overall project execution, team leadership, and stakeholder coordination from pre-construction through commissioning.
Key Responsibilities- Provide full lifecycle leadership of a major construction project, from pre-construction through completion and commissioning
- Serve as the primary liaison between executive leadership, design teams, subcontractors, and client stakeholders
- Oversee day-to-day construction operations in partnership with the General Superintendent, while driving long-term project strategy
- Ensure project milestones are delivered on schedule and within budget
- Manage and monitor project financials, including oversight of budgets and change order processes
- Lead, mentor, and build high-performing project teams, including recruiting additional staff as needed
- Champion and enforce a strong safety culture with a focus on zero incidents
- Coordinate with local authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs), inspectors, and community stakeholders
- Ensure compliance with all project requirements, regulations, and quality standards
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- 12 years of construction management experience
- At least 4 years in a leadership role overseeing large-scale projects
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with a large general contractor
- Proven experience managing large, ground-up construction projects (data centers and/or higher education facilities preferred)
- Prior experience as a Project Executive or Project Director
- Strong leadership, communication, and team-building skills
- Deep understanding of large-scale building systems and construction processes
- Virginia contractor's license (preferred)
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel)
- Working knowledge of architectural, mechanical, and technical disciplines
- Ability to navigate active construction sites, including climbing ladders and stairs and traversing uneven terrain
- Capability to lift and carry materials up to 50 pounds occasionally
- Must be able to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and perform other physical activities as required on-site
- Primarily based on active construction job sites
- Exposure to varying weather conditions, construction equipment, noise levels, and job site hazards
- Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Must maintain strong situational awareness and adhere to safety protocols at all times
