Commissioning Specialist

Our client is seeking an experienced Commissioning Specialist to join their growing team in Arlington, Virginia. This contract-to-hire opportunity offers the chance to work on a diverse portfolio of commissioning, retro-commissioning, and re-commissioning projects across complex facilities and infrastructure environments.
In this role, you will support both field and office-based commissioning activities, leading efforts that ensure building systems and equipment operate safely, efficiently, and in accordance with design intent. You will collaborate closely with clients, project stakeholders, contractors, and operations teams to deliver high-quality commissioning services that enhance facility performance and reliability.
The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise in commissioning processes, building systems, and electrical infrastructure, along with a commitment to operational excellence and client satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and perform commissioning activities for new construction, retrofit, and existing facility projects.
- Execute commissioning plans, procedures, and documentation throughout all phases of project delivery.
- Conduct equipment startup, pre-functional inspections, functional performance testing, and integrated systems testing.
- Verify that installed systems meet project requirements, design intent, operational needs, and applicable industry standards.
- Coordinate with owners, contractors, design teams, vendors, and facility personnel to support successful project outcomes.
- Review construction documents, submittals, equipment documentation, and testing procedures.
- Identify deficiencies, track issues, and support resolution efforts through project completion.
- Perform quality assurance and quality control inspections of building and infrastructure systems.
- Develop commissioning reports, test scripts, deficiency logs, and final project documentation.
- Support facility turnover activities, operator training, and systems acceptance processes.
- Travel to project sites as needed to support commissioning and testing activities.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Building Systems, or a related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience performing commissioning, startup, testing, or related facility systems activities.
- Experience with one or more of the following:
- Utility infrastructure systems
- Life safety systems
- Electrical power distribution systems
- Low-voltage systems
- Building and facility systems
- Facility operations and maintenance programs
- Working knowledge of NFPA, NETA, and NICET electrical testing standards and code requirements.
- Strong understanding of commissioning methodologies, testing procedures, and quality assurance practices.
- Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- U.S. Citizenship required.
- Ability to travel up to 50% based on project requirements.
- Experience supporting mission-critical facilities, data centers, or highly complex infrastructure projects.
- Professional certifications related to commissioning, testing, or building systems.
- Experience with integrated systems testing and facility performance optimization.
- Knowledge of building automation systems and controls.
