We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Head Coach to lead our 5th–8th Grade Middle School Volleyball program. This role is ideal for someone who values player development, positive mentorship, and creating a fun, competitive environment appropriate for middle school athletes.
Job Summary
The Middle School Volleyball Head Coach will be responsible for leading and managing the 5th–8th grade team(s), focusing on teaching volleyball fundamentals, building teamwork, and fostering a love of the game. The coach will plan and run practices, introduce game strategy, and serve as a role model for sportsmanship and integrity. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic, patient, and experienced in working with middle school student-athletes of varying skill levels.
Key Responsibilities:Practice Planning & Instruction:
Design and lead age-appropriate practices focused on fundamental volleyball skills such as serving, passing, setting, hitting, and court positioning.
Game Preparation & Strategy
Teach basic offensive and defensive systems, ensure players understand rotations and rules, and create opportunities for success during matches.
Athlete Development
Encourage and mentor players, helping them build confidence, communication skills, sportsmanship, and resilience both on and off the court.
Leadership & Supervision
Provide structure, clear expectations, and a safe, inclusive environment where all athletes feel supported and motivated to improve.
Family & Community Engagement
Communicate effectively with parents, faculty, and athletic staff regarding schedules, expectations, and team progress.
Role Modeling
Consistently demonstrate integrity, positivity, and enthusiasm, modeling the values of Ashley Hall.
Program Alignment
Collaborate with the athletic department and upper school volleyball coaches to ensure the middle school program builds a strong developmental foundation for future participation.
Qualifications:Experience:
Prior coaching or playing experience in volleyball, preferably with middle school or youth athletes.
Knowledge
Strong understanding of volleyball fundamentals, rules, and skill progression appropriate for beginner to intermediate players.
Communication
Ability to connect with middle school students, foster trust, and maintain clear, consistent communication with families.
Commitment
Availability for practices, matches, and related activities, including evenings and occasional weekends.
Leadership
Patience, positivity, and the ability to motivate and mentor young athletes.
Team-Oriented
Collaborative mindset with athletic staff to support the long-term goals of the volleyball program.
