Job Description
Ashley Hall is looking for a dedicated and knowledgeable Head Junior Varsity Tennis Coach to lead its JV Tennis program. This role is instrumental in fostering a positive, developmentally appropriate athletic experience for students in Grades 6–10. The ideal candidate will prepare student-athletes for advancement to the varsity level while promoting teamwork, resilience, and a lifelong love for the game.
Qualifications And Personal Attributes
The ideal candidate should have strong tennis experience, demonstrate excellent communication and leadership skills, and have a history of coaching youth or school-based tennis teams.
Major Responsibilities
The most competitive candidates will offer the following qualifications and qualities:
Leadership & Coaching: Serve as the Head Coach for Ashley Hall’s Junior Varsity Tennis Team. Provide daily instruction, guidance, and mentorship to student-athletes in Grades 6–10, emphasizing skill development, respect, and sportsmanship. Support players’ growth on and off the court, and foster a cohesive and inclusive team environment.
Program Development: Design and implement a structured training curriculum focused on tennis fundamentals, match strategy, and athletic character. Identify and nurture players with the potential for advancement to varsity-level play. Collaborate closely with the Varsity Head Coach to ensure alignment across the tennis program.
Practice & Match Preparation: Conduct safe and productive practices 5 days per week. Prepare the team for competitive play through strategy sessions, conditioning, and match simulations. Evaluate performance and implement targeted improvements.
Match Management: Lead the team during all scheduled JV matches, providing coaching and real-time feedback. Coordinate with the Athletic Department on scheduling, transportation, and logistics. Ensure Ashley Hall student-athletes represent the school with integrity.
Athlete Development: Provide individualized growth plans and constructive feedback for players at all levels. Promote leadership and team bonding through off-court activities. Encourage off-season training opportunities such as camps and clinics.
Collaboration: Work in alignment with Ashley Hall’s athletic philosophy and collaborate regularly with the Varsity Tennis Coach. Serve as a liaison between the athletics office, families, and student-athletes.
Community Engagement: Represent Ashley Hall at school and local tennis events. Engage the wider school community, including families and alumni, to build enthusiasm for the program.
Administrative Responsibilities: Maintain accurate team records including attendance, match results, and evaluations. Coordinate with the Athletics Office regarding scheduling, communications, and equipment needs. Ensure compliance with school and league safety protocols.
Key Requirements
Start Date: July 2025
In Season: July to October – Practices 5 days/week, matches during the week with occasional weekend tournaments
Off Season Responsibilities: May include planning meetings, clinics, and collaboration with Varsity Coach

Key Requirements
- A minimum of 35 years of tennis coaching experience, preferably at the middle or high school level
- Deep understanding of tennis fundamentals, coaching techniques, and match strategy
- Current CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain prior to the season
- Strong organizational and timemanagement skills
- Availability for weekday afternoon practices and weekend matches during the season
- Strong preference for candidates interested in broader involvement at Ashley Hall
- Completion of all required Ashley Hall and SCISA documentation
- Employment is contingent upon successful completion of background check, reference checks, and medical requirements
