Ascendo is excited to present this opportunity in the Financial Services industry. We are seeking a highly analytical and meticulous Underwriter to be a critical part of our client's residential lending team. This role involves comprehensive credit analysis and risk assessment for mortgage loans, ensuring compliance with all internal policies and regulatory standards. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in credit underwriting, deep knowledge of financial analysis, and the ability to process large volumes of work under time constraints.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and analyze borrower's financial information, including tax returns and income documentation, to determine repayment ability.
- Prepare detailed credit underwriting reports that identify and mitigate risk, ensuring adherence to the firm's Credit Policy.
- Analyze the overall financial condition of applicants and their business operations to make informed recommendations on credit proposals.
- Request necessary documentation and work to resolve any issues related to the borrower's financial condition or credit risk.
- Conduct essential background and credit checks, examining references for consistency with application data.
- Maintain full understanding and compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies, including those related to BSA/AML and CDD/EDD.
Qualifications
- Proficiency in various computer software and applications.
- Demonstrated ability to handle high work volumes, prioritize effectively, and meet tight deadlines.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with a keen focus on detail and accuracy.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; proficiency in Spanish or Portuguese is highly valued.
- Commitment to maintaining the security and confidentiality of all customer information.
- Familiarity with accounting principles and robust financial analysis techniques.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution or an equivalent combination of extensive related experience and education.
