Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
About the Opportunity
A mission-driven nonprofit senior services organization in Jacksonville, FL is seeking a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to lead all aspects of financial strategy, accounting operations, budgeting, compliance, and financial reporting.
This is a hands-on executive leadership role responsible for ensuring financial integrity, regulatory compliance, and strategic financial planning across the organization and its related entities. The CFO will serve as a key advisor to the CEO and Board of Directors.
Key Responsibilities
Executive Financial Leadership
- Lead overall financial strategy, fiscal planning, and financial operations across the organization and related entities
- Serve as a key advisor to the CEO and Board of Directors on financial performance, forecasting, and organizational health
Accounting & Financial Management
- Oversee accounting operations, financial reporting, budgeting, cash flow, banking, investments, insurance, and internal controls
- Ensure accuracy and timeliness of all financial statements and reporting deliverables
Audit & Compliance
- Coordinate annual external CPA audits, including financial statements, audit support, disclosures, and related documentation
- Support preparation for IRS Form 990 and other regulatory filings
- Maintain strong internal controls, fraud prevention practices, and compliance frameworks
Budgeting & Forecasting
- Lead annual budgeting process and ongoing budget-to-actual analysis
- Develop multi-year forecasts, variance analysis, and scenario modeling
Financial Analysis & Program Support
- Provide financial insight to support program operations, funding streams, and long-term sustainability
- Monitor financial performance across related entities and HUD-supported properties in coordination with external partners
Leadership & Team Development
- Manage and develop finance and accounting staff to ensure high performance and accuracy
- Establish departmental goals, workflows, and accountability standards
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field
- Active CPA or CMA certification
- Senior-level financial leadership experience with responsibility for:
- Financial reporting and audits
- Budgeting and forecasting
- Internal controls and compliance
- Executive and Board-level reporting
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and nonprofit or regulated financial environments
- Experience working with external CPA firms and coordinating annual audits
- Strong analytical, leadership, and communication skills
- Ability to work 100% on-site in Jacksonville, FL
- Valid driver’s license required
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior nonprofit financial leadership experience
- Experience with grants, restricted funding, or government-funded programs
- Familiarity with OMB Uniform Guidance (A-133), HUD, housing, senior services, healthcare, or similar regulated sectors
- Experience presenting to Boards, Audit Committees, or Investment Committees
- Multi-entity or multi-program financial oversight experience
- Experience strengthening internal controls or resolving audit findings
- Florida CPA license (preferred, not required)
